Software Engineer

McKesson is seeking a Service Operations Engineering (SOE) Cloud Architect to support McKesson Pharmacy Systems (MPS) and help shape cloud solutions for customer-critical SaaS offerings. In this onsite role in Irving, TX, you will design, develop, and implement scalable, secure, and resilient Microsoft Azure architectures while partnering with engineering, DevOps, and security teams to keep performance, cost-efficiency, and security aligned to business goals.

What you will do

• Design and implement scalable, secure, and resilient cloud solutions on Microsoft Azure.
• Lead cloud migration and modernization efforts for mission-critical SaaS applications.
• Collaborate with engineering, DevOps, and security teams to improve platform performance, reliability, and operational efficiency.
• Provide architectural guidance for Java-based applications, containerized workloads, and large-scale database environments.
• Evaluate and recommend cloud technologies, automation strategies, and cloud best practices.
• Support customer-facing technical discussions and resolve complex issues.
• Establish and promote cloud governance, security, and compliance standards.
• Contribute to adoption of AI-enabled tools and capabilities that improve engineering productivity and innovation.

Required qualifications

• Degree or equivalent, typically requiring 4+ years of relevant experience.
• 4+ years designing, building, and implementing software business solutions on cloud platforms.
• Experience with architectural techniques and implementations such as Services Oriented Architecture, loosely coupled design, composite application design, and cloud architecture.
• Knowledge of non-functional cloud requirements including security, performance, scalability, maintainability (deployment), reliability, and supportability.
• Experience in a customer-facing technical consultancy setting.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills, with ability and willingness to create and maintain internal- and customer-facing technical and procedural documentation.
• Familiarity with high-availability technologies and architectural techniques provided by the cloud.
• Understanding of information security and risk management concepts, regulations, and certifications including disaster recovery, PHI, HIPAA, PCI, along with information security and system access control policies and processes.
• Experience architecting cloud solutions on platforms such as Azure using technologies including AKS, Docker, Function Apps, Service Buses, Storage Accounts, etc.
• Experience using AI-related tools such as CoPilot to accelerate application architecture and software design.

• Experience with large-scale SaaS platforms and complex production environments.
• Knowledge of Agile delivery methodologies such as Scrum or Kanban.
• Experience managing large-scale systems or operations projects.

Compensation and location

• Location: Irving, TX (onsite)
• Salary: USD 106,100 - 176,800 per year
