Software Engineer

Hay X is seeking a Senior Software Engineer for a full-time, hands-on startup role. You will work closely with the founder and the development team to enhance an inventory management platform for agriculture, ship new features, and deliver reliable APIs and integrations.

Role Overview

This is an in-person position located in Junction City, OR. The role involves improving the current product, building additional capabilities, and making technical decisions that support growth. You will be expected to work through incomplete requirements, ask thoughtful questions, and carry features from early planning through release and follow-up improvements.

Key Responsibilities

• Build and maintain features across the company’s web and mobile platform.
• Partner directly with the founder to understand customer workflows and prioritize improvements.
• Enhance the experience for customers managing inventory, weight tickets, loads, sales, and invoices.
• Improve reliability, performance, and the overall user experience.
• Develop APIs and integrations with external services.
• Investigate issues, identify root causes, and support customers when problems occur.
• Collaborate with the development team through code reviews and clear communication.
• Take ownership of features from planning through release and subsequent enhancements.
• Maintain a balance between delivery speed and maintainable code, testing, and sound technical decision-making.

Required Qualifications

• Strong experience building and shipping production software.
• Full-stack experience across frontend applications, backend services, APIs, and databases.
• Experience working on a startup or small team with significant individual responsibility.
• Ability to translate complex business workflows into intuitive user experiences.
• Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work independently.
• Clear communication, dependable follow-through, and attention to detail.
• Willingness to treat Hay X as a primary, full-time professional commitment.
• A practical approach to AI development tools, including responsibility for reviewing and validating results.
• Experience as a founder or technical co-founder.
• Experience growing a product from early users to broader adoption.
• Experience with mobile applications, SaaS, marketplaces, or business management software.
• Familiarity with agriculture, trucking, logistics, inventory, or accounting workflows.
• Agricultural experience is helpful but not required.

Compensation and Work Location

• Pay: USD 30 - 35 per hour
• Work Location: In person (onsite)
