Software Engineer II
Job Description
Remote (U.S.) software engineering role with Tempus building custom software, systems, and integrations in an agile/scrum environment. This Software Engineer II position focuses on Python development, database interfacing, web services, and creating scalable, secure applications. Work with a cross-functional team across engineering, QA, and business systems analysis to deliver product value.
Compensation: USD 85,000 - 130,000 per year. Minimum experience: 3 years in a professional Python role.
Responsibilities
- Design and develop custom software, systems, and integrations
- Collaborate with software engineers, QA engineers, and business systems analysts to deliver enhanced product value within an agile/scrum workflow
- Partner with IT operations teams to design technical solutions
- Participate in scrum ceremonies and contribute during backlog grooming, sprint planning, and daily standups
- Work with stakeholders to understand workflows, requests, and ticket scope
- Complete assigned tasks while applying critical thinking to identify design issues and propose technical or functional enhancements
Requirements
- At least 3 years of professional experience developing with Python
- Python development that interfaces with relational and non-relational databases, including RDS and NoSQL
- Design and develop software according to ticket specifications
- Participate on both sides of code review, including giving and receiving feedback
- Experience participating in scrum ceremonies, including backlog grooming, sprint planning, and daily standups
- Meet with stakeholders to understand workflows
- Support leads and systems analysts by curating tickets and providing workflow analysis
- Monitor process and logs, troubleshoot issues, and address problems identified in production contexts
- Develop, maintain, and enhance Python applications with a focus on scalability, performance, and security
- Experience with Flask and/or Django
- Experience working in various frameworks
- Frontend web development experience using HTML, CSS, and JavaScript
- Strongly recommended: experience with frontend frameworks such as ReactJS
- Strong understanding of relational databases (for example, MySQL)
- Ability to confidently write and optimize complex queries involving multiple tables
- Experience with non-relational databases (for example, MongoDB)
- Ability to programmatically read and write structured and unstructured formats including JSON, CSV, and XML
- Experience using production and consumption of web services such as REST, SOAP, and AMQP
- Basic understanding and usage of Docker containers
- Competency translating functional requirements into technical requirements, including highlighting complexity and problematic areas
- Knowledge of or interest in learning lab processes, protocols, and data structures
Preferred Experience
- Bachelor’s in Computer Science or related discipline is recommended but not required
- Experience with and/or certifications in AWS or other cloud technologies is a plus
