Junior Software Engineer

The Junior Software Engineer role supports an Intelligence Community client in McLean, Virginia, contributing to mission-focused software applications across Sponsor networks and cloud environments. The work spans design, development, integration, testing, deployment, and ongoing maintenance, with full lifecycle Agile execution.

Location and Salary

• Location: McLean, VA (onsite)
• Compensation: USD 140,000 to 170,000 per year

Summary

This position involves building and enhancing software applications that operate within Sponsor environments, including cloud-based systems. Responsibilities include REST API development, external code integration into core libraries, operational reliability support, and continuous testing throughout the Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC).

Responsibilities

• Develop and modify application source code based on new requirements and requests for change.
• Deliver application bug fixes, enhancements, and GUI improvements aligned to operational needs.
• Design, develop, and deploy applications across Sponsor environments, including cloud-based environments.
• Create and maintain REST APIs.
• Integrate externally developed code into core software libraries.
• Install and configure application software.
• Evaluate third-party vendors and software partners.
• Maintain software library design and architecture, including module APIs, code organization, and adherence to established coding standards.
• Apply principles of modularity, reusable code, clean interfaces between subsystems, and overall design integrity.
• Coordinate with configuration management personnel to incorporate externally developed software into core libraries.
• Develop software intended for deployment on Sponsor networks.
• Develop and support software libraries involving technologies such as audio/video, image-processing algorithms, operating systems and file systems, and device drivers.
• Assist the Sponsor with standards, methods, and procedures for product quality, release readiness, and software acceptance.
• Conduct testing across all SDLC levels, including regression testing and use of established testing procedures.
• Support Agile development practices throughout the full application lifecycle.
• Track and manage software issues using tools such as JIRA.
• Provide metrics on software availability and reliability during monthly status reviews.

Required Qualifications

• Security Clearance: Active TS/SCI with a FS Polygraph (required to be considered).
• Education: Bachelor’s degree or higher.
• Experience: Minimum 2 years of software engineering experience within the last 5 years.
• Core Technology Experience: Demonstrated experience with at least 3 of the following: .NET, Visual Basic, Java, JavaScript, Tomcat, SQL, XML, Python, HTML, LDAP certificates, Apache, Ruby.
• Team Coverage: Collectively, the team must demonstrate experience across all technologies listed above.
• Agile: Demonstrated experience supporting full-lifecycle Agile software development projects.
• Issue Tracking: Demonstrated experience using software issue-tracking tools such as JIRA.

Desired Qualifications

• Demonstrated experience developing Android applications.
• Demonstrated experience designing, developing, and maintaining applications within AWS/Sponsor cloud computing environments.
• Working knowledge of GIS software, including Google Maps and Google Earth.
• Demonstrated experience with Continuous Software Development and Software Integration best practices.
• Experience working with Information Security (INFOSEC) and Information Assurance (IA) policies, including ICD 503, to support system security and data integrity.
• Demonstrated experience implementing the complete DevOps lifecycle, including build pipeline integration, automated deployments, compliance scanning, and test-driven development.
