Sr. Software Engineer (Contract-to-Hire)
Job Description
Fulcrum Neuroscience is hiring a hands-on Sr. Software Engineer (Contract-to-Hire) to build AI-driven tools and data integrations for biological modeling and model-enabled research.
Responsibilities
- Develop AI-driven tools and skills, including chat-based interactions and agentic workflows
- Implement MCP-based integrations to support model development and analysis, including model-based drug discovery and development
- Build AI-enabled visualizations, dashboards, and automated parametric search tools for complex, iterative goal-seeking tasks
- Enable goal-seeking tasks to run autonomously or with human-in-the-loop operation
- Create tools that integrate and analyze external literature and data inside the modeling platform
- Turn concepts and prototypes into scalable and extensible software solutions
- Capture requirements from technical discussions and produce clear documentation, including commented code, architecture and workflow descriptions, and API documentation
Requirements
- BS in Computer Science or Engineering (or related discipline)
- 5+ years developing software in a professional environment
- Experience with “vibe coding” with one or more frontier models
- Proficiency in Python and JSON, plus interfacing with API-driven platforms
- Mathematica experience is a plus
- Proven ability to deliver well-designed, well-documented code, including documentation that supports other team members (architecture, workflow, APIs)
- Comfort working in a fast-moving startup, managing multiple priorities and adapting to evolving deadlines
Highly Desired Qualifications
- Experience building scientific, modeling, and/or analytical software
- Experience developing AI skills for agentic workflows
- Experience integrating software with LLMs, including LLM APIs, RAG, and MCP
- Hands-on experience with open-weight (local) LLM models
- Familiarity with Bayesian statistics and simulation of systems of non-linear differential equations

Work Setting and Location
