Structural Design Engineer

Hybrid role in Avon, IN with an initial on-site training period, followed by the option for remote work. This position supports a team that spans engineering and multiple operational groups, giving you hands-on involvement in tank and tank structure design while partnering with departments across QA/QC, Safety, Construction Operations, Project Management, and Procurement.

What you will do

• Support engineering design for elevated water towers and above ground tanks, including analysis and design of steel plate and reinforced concrete structures.
• Interpret geotechnical reports to select and design complex foundations.
• Apply customer specifications, design standards, and building codes, including AWWA D107 & D100, API, IBC, ASCE, ACI, and AISC.
• Direct and oversee detailing work, and prepare and seal calculations, drawings, and specifications.
• Provide post-design support for troubleshooting and problem resolution.
• Collaborate as a specialist with other teams, including QA/QC, Safety, Construction Operations, Project Management, and Procurement.
• Work with estimators to prepare bid designs and review vendor submittals.

What you bring

• Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering with a concentration in Structures and Mechanics.
• Passed Fundamentals of Engineering (FE), with the ability to obtain a Professional Engineering license within 4-5 years of EIT issuance.
• Experience developing and reviewing structural and mechanical drawings.
• High proficiency in 2D drafting, especially AutoCAD.
• 3D / SolidWorks experience is preferred.
• Strong personal computer skills.
• Master’s degree in Structural Engineering is preferred.
• Professional Engineer license is preferred; focus in Structural Engineering is preferred.
• Design-Build project experience is preferred.
• Working knowledge of codes and standards (AWWA, API, IBC, ASCE, ACI, AISC) is preferred.
• Finite Element Analysis (FEA) is preferred.
• MATLAB and MathCAD is preferred.
