Structural Engineer
Job Description
This Structural Engineer role at Nederveld Inc. in Grand Rapids, MI centers on design, analysis, and evaluation of structural systems.
Responsibilities
- Conduct structural analysis and develop design solutions for a range of building and infrastructure projects
- Prepare detailed calculations, construction documents, specifications, and technical reports
- Assess existing structures through field investigations and condition assessments
- Verify that designs comply with applicable codes, standards, and client requirements
- Leverage documented facts and reports to create constructible, efficient solutions
- Apply structural theory to real world applications
- Deliver assignments within agreed client timelines
- Maintain ethical practices in all project activities
Requirements
- Self-motivated with strong problem-solving abilities
- Detail oriented with a thorough approach to engineering tasks
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- 4 or more years of engineering design experience
- Licensed Professional Engineer, or ability to obtain licensure within six months
- Valid Driver’s License in good standing and demonstrated safe driving habits
- Ability to pass a criminal background check as required for the position
- Bachelor of Science in Civil/Structural Engineering
Position Type / Expected Hours
This is a full-time position with some flexibility in hours, but availability is expected during standard work hours of 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM.
Physical Demands
- Combination of field work, travel-related tasks, and sedentary work
- Regularly drive, stand, sit, walk, reach, type, talk, hear, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, climb, push, pull, carry
- Lift up to 50 pounds
- May traverse wooded or uneven terrain, enter structures, use ladders, walk on roofs, access confined spaces
- Work in varying weather conditions
Travel
Regular travel is required as part of this role, with some overnight travel possible.
