Structural Engineer
Job Description
This Structural Engineer role supports the Oak Ridge, TN office and offers remote or hybrid work options.
Responsibilities
- Participate in the design process for structures built from steel, concrete, and masonry.
- Develop design calculations using standard methods and advanced analysis, including finite element analysis (FEA).
- Prepare design drawings and construction specifications for steel, concrete, and masonry systems.
- Engage with new design challenges to expand skills while contributing to life changing infrastructure nationwide.
Requirements
- Sole US citizenship required to comply with government customer requirements or regulations.
- B.S. in Structural or Civil Engineering from an ABET-accredited program.
- 3 to 12 years of post-education experience.
- Ability to follow and implement established quality procedures and ensure procedural compliance.
- Design experience with steel, concrete, and masonry with emphasis on seismic design.
- Experience applying local and national codes such as IBC, AISC, ACI, and ASCE.
- Ability to use finite element software.
- Competence with Microsoft Office.
- Ability to learn new software as necessary for project success.
- Comfort operating in a fast-paced environment where requirements may evolve.
- Proficient in working and communicating in a digital environment.

Work Location
- Remote or hybrid work arrangement with preference for full-time presence in Oak Ridge, TN
- Within 50 miles of Oak Ridge: hybrid option requires in-office presence at least 50% of the week
- Outside 50 miles: remote option with quarterly travel to Oak Ridge, TN
- A secured location within the United States is required for remote or hybrid work
Essential Functions
- Intermittent sitting, walking, standing, bending, squatting, climbing, kneeling, twisting, and lifting
- Lifting up to 20 lbs; longest distance carried about 50 feet
- Hand manipulation for grasping, pushing/pulling, and fine motor tasks
- Use of either right or left hand
- Occasional overhead or below-shoulder work; field work near construction equipment
- No foot controls required
- Possible exposure to dust, gas or fumes, noise, extreme temperatures or humidity, and work at heights; occasional travel
Compensation Details
- USD 70,000 to 126,000 per year
Preferred Qualifications
- M.S. in Structural or Civil Engineering from an ABET-accredited program
- Professional Engineer (PE) license with ability to obtain a new state license
- Residence within commutable distance of Oak Ridge, TN
- Knowledge of nuclear codes such as DOE 1020, ASCE 4, ASCE 43, AISC N690, and ACI 349
- Experience working in a BIM-driven environment
- Experience with ISO 9000 or NQA-1 quality systems
- Familiarity with advanced design methods such as non-linear analysis, performance-based design, or blast/impact design
