Job Description

GSG Consultants, Inc. offers a benefits-forward Structural Engineer role based in Schaumburg, IL, onsite. The position provides a competitive salary range of USD 120,000 to 140,000 per year, with the opportunity to lead planning, design, and delivery of diverse building and infrastructure projects. You will act as a technical resource, project manager, and client liaison, with potential to oversee multidisciplinary teams, mentor junior staff, contribute to business development, and support the firm’s continued growth.

Responsibilities

  • Lead structural engineering projects from concept development through construction completion.
  • Plan, analyze, and design structural systems for commercial, institutional, industrial, municipal, transportation, and other building projects.
  • Prepare and review structural calculations, specifications, technical reports, construction documents, and engineering studies.
  • Design structures utilizing structural steel, reinforced and post-tensioned concrete, masonry, timber, and foundation systems.
  • Manage project scope, schedules, budgets, staffing, and resource allocation to ensure successful project delivery.
  • Coordinate with architects, civil engineers, MEP consultants, contractors, and project stakeholders.
  • Utilize structural analysis and Building Information Modeling (BIM) software for design and project execution.
  • Provide technical leadership, quality assurance, and mentorship to junior engineers and designers.
  • Conduct peer reviews and oversee compliance with applicable building codes and industry standards.
  • Collaborate with clients to understand project goals and develop practical, cost-effective solutions.
  • Support proposal preparation, client development, and business growth initiatives.
  • Prepare material takeoffs, cost estimates, and engineering opinions of probable construction costs.
  • Participate in construction administration activities.
  • Conduct field investigations, condition assessments, and structural evaluations of existing facilities.
  • Support forensic investigations, rehabilitation projects, and structural assessments.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering or Structural Engineering from an accredited program.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license required; SE license or completion of the NCEES SE exam preferred.
  • Minimum 8 years of progressive structural engineering experience.
  • Technical proficiency with MicroStation, AutoCAD, and Revit, plus industry-standard structural software.
  • Demonstrated experience leading structural design projects and coordinating with multidisciplinary teams.
  • Strong technical background in the analysis and design of steel, concrete, masonry, wood, and foundation systems.
  • Experience managing project schedules, budgets, and client relationships.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently while collaborating within a team environment.
