Structural Water Engineer Part-Time

Black & Veatch Family of Companies is seeking a part-time Structural Water Engineer to help shape the structural systems for water purification and treatment facilities. This role blends hands-on engineering leadership with collaborative cross-discipline work in a hybrid Houston environment, supporting projects that can reach up to $100 million in construction value. The position emphasizes safe, code-compliant design and effective coordination across teams.

Responsibilities

• Perform advanced structural analysis, calculations, and create sketches and drawings for the design of water and wastewater treatment plants, industrial facilities, and other complex structures
• Lead and supervise Structural Engineers across the US and overseas offices, and coordinate with Structural Technicians on drawings and specifications
• Direct larger production teams and act as the responsible charge for projects
• Conduct construction phase engineering duties such as site visits, responding to RFIs, and reviewing contractor submittals
• Coordinate work with architects and engineers from other disciplines
• Guide teams to deliver complex projects with construction values up to $100M
• Provide guidance on department design guides, standards, systems, applicable engineering codes, and BV policies; assist in developing and updating engineering standards; offer technical guidance across projects and disciplines and support continuous improvement
• Offer direction to colleagues and team members
• Implement resource management strategies for a small group

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in engineering from an accredited program or equivalent experience
• Minimum of 5 years related work experience
• Active engineering registration or licensure to support engineer of record requirements for BV projects in applicable countries, and provide support where necessary
• Successful completion of pre-employment onboarding requirements including background checks, drug screening, and motor vehicle records search as required by laws and regulations
