Job Description
Riber Inc offers a hybrid Technical Support Engineer role in Hillsborough, NJ, combining on-site field service for MBE and UHV systems with hands-on production and assembly work in the facility. The position is in person with potential travel up to 40 percent, and carries a salary range of $65,000 to $80,000 per year. This role encompasses installation, commissioning, troubleshooting, preventive maintenance, and collaboration with engineering and sales teams to support customers and continuous improvement.
Responsibilities
- Travel to customer sites to install, commission, troubleshoot, and repair MBE/UHV systems
- Diagnose mechanical, electrical, and vacuum-related issues using schematics, wiring diagrams, and system documentation
- Perform preventive maintenance and system upgrades
- Communicate directly with customers and document service visits, root causes, and corrective actions
- Provide technical support to sales teams and assist with basic quotes
- Travel on short notice when required, including internationally
- Assemble mechanical sub-systems and components for UHV/MBE systems per engineering drawings and work instructions
- Read and interpret 3D models and mechanical drawings (SolidWorks preferred)
- Perform precision mechanical assembly: vacuum chamber components, flanges, fittings, motion and manipulation hardware
- Support basic wiring and electrical integration of sensors, gauges, and controllers
- Collaborate with engineering on fit checks, first article builds, and design feedback
- Coordinate with vendors, enter assembly bills of materials, and assist with inventory management
Requirements
- BS degree in engineering preferred; Associate's degree or technical certification in mechanical, electrical, mechatronics, or related field
- 2+ years in mechanical assembly, field service, or technical support, ideally with capital or scientific equipment
- Strong mechanical aptitude: hand tools, torque specifications, precision fastening and assembly
- Working electrical knowledge: able to read basic schematics and wiring diagrams, troubleshoot with a multimeter, and understand common industrial protocols (RS-232/485, Ethernet/IP, Profibus, or similar)
- Ability to read and interpret 3D CAD models and mechanical drawings
- Willing and able to travel up to 40 percent, including internationally, sometimes on short notice
- Valid passport and ability to obtain travel visas as needed
- Comfortable representing the company directly with customers; strong communication skills
- Eligible to access export-controlled ITAR technical data; typically requires US citizenship or permanent residency (confirm current requirement with HR/legal)
