TWT Project Engineer
Job Description
Stellant Systems invites applications for an onsite TWT Project Engineer in Torrance, CA. In the Space Traveling Wave Tube group, you will support production, development, testing, and lifecycle activities for TWT, EPC, and MPM products, collaborating across disciplines to meet performance, cost, and schedule targets. This role is based onsite in Torrance and offers a salary range of USD 80,000 - 160,000 per year.
Responsibilities
- Observe, evaluate, and troubleshoot existing production problems
- Develop an overarching understanding of the manufacturing and testing processes for vacuum hardware and RF / TWT / MPM testing
- Lead engineering initiatives and projects
- Support operations personnel with day-to-day production needs
- Assist program management on technical issues and customer relations
- Be a key member of a multidisciplinary engineering team to develop or troubleshoot designs that meet performance, cost, and schedule targets
- Support bid and proposal activities by analyzing customer specifications for feasibility and cost
- Translate customer needs into engineering metrics
- Specify components or direct modifications to ensure conformance with design and performance specifications
- Communicate effectively with vendors, customers, and other Stellant personnel
- Perform modeling and design engineering tasks on current or future products
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in physics or an engineering discipline is required
- A master's degree in a related field is a plus
- Relevant engineering experience that includes a combination of or equivalent experience in production or development support, electromechanical design, radar or RF systems, electron beam or vacuum equipment, or systems or project engineering is preferred
- Level II requires a minimum of 2 years, Level III requires a minimum of 4 years, Level IV requires a minimum of 6 years
- An advanced degree can be considered sufficient experience in lieu of professional experience depending on the degree
- Project or system engineering with hands-on experience is preferred
- Knowledge of the design, manufacturing, or testing of RF and vacuum technologies is a major plus, with emphasis on TWTs
- Experience with engineering drawings or CAD software
- Manufacturing experience is a plus, especially in dispenser cathodes, vacuum hardware, brazing, RF systems, system integration, and general mechanical packaging
- Understanding of lean manufacturing and continuous improvement principles is a plus
- Effective verbal and written communication skills; experience presenting to internal and external customers is a plus
- Experience interpreting customer specifications into test requirements and comparing them to test data
- Ability to work well in a team environment with colleagues across program management, multiple engineering disciplines, business development, senior management, manufacturing and test personnel
- Understanding of computer modeling and simulation is a plus
- Computer programming skills are a plus
- Previous experience in root cause analysis is a bonus
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications is required
- Active or previous security clearance preferred
