CMM Programming & Metrology Engineer

Isembard is looking for an experienced CMM Programming & Metrology Engineer to help standardize inspection methodologies across its manufacturing network. This on-site role in Windsor, ME focuses on building consistent dimensional measurement practices, strengthening metrology governance, and improving inspection capability through repeatable, automated CMM programming. What you’ll do

• Develop and maintain enterprise standards for CMM programming, dimensional inspection, and metrology across all manufacturing locations.
• Define standardized workflows for inspection planning, program development, validation, approval, and revision control.
• Create repeatable inspection and programming standards designed to reduce variability and maximize measurement reliability.
• Build best practices for first article inspection, production verification, capability studies, and process validation.
• Develop, validate, and optimize CMM programs using Modus and other leading CMM software platforms.
• Establish inspection strategies using CAD models, engineering drawings, GD&T requirements, and customer specifications.
• Design highly automated inspection programs that minimize operator intervention.
• Validate measurement uncertainty, and ensure repeatability and reproducibility.
• Support new product introduction by developing inspection planning and measurement strategy.
• Serve as the organization’s technical expert for ASME Y14.5 Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing.
• Interpret complex drawings and translate functional requirements into effective inspection methods.
• Provide technical guidance to engineering, manufacturing, and quality teams on GD&T interpretation and application.
• Build and maintain enterprise inspection libraries, programming templates, and reusable measurement routines.
• Evaluate and standardize metrology equipment, software, and inspection technologies across the network, including support for new site deployment.
• Lead metrology governance activities including program review, approval, validation, and periodic verification.
• Analyze inspection results, recommend manufacturing process improvements, and support root cause investigations related to dimensional nonconformances.
• Ensure CMM systems are calibrated, maintained, and capable, coordinating maintenance, calibration, software updates, and hardware support.
• Drive Lean Manufacturing and continuous improvement initiatives within inspection operations.
• Evaluate emerging metrology technologies including optical scanning, vision systems, laser measurement, structured light, and automated inspection.
• Support implementation of statistical process control and measurement system analysis (MSA).
• Mentor and develop CMM programmers, inspectors, and quality personnel, including delivering training on CMM programming, inspection methodology, and GD&T.

Skills and qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Manufacturing, Metrology, or a related technical discipline (or equivalent experience).
• Minimum 5 years of advanced CMM programming experience in a precision manufacturing environment.
• Demonstrated experience developing complex automated CMM inspection programs.
• Strong working knowledge of ASME Y14.5 GD&T.
• Experience supporting aerospace, defense, or other highly regulated manufacturing industries.
• Ability to travel up to approximately 25% to support network deployment and standardization initiatives.

Compensation: $80,000.00 - $160,000.00 per year
