Job Description

Thermo Systems LLC is seeking a Control Systems Project Engineer I to support a wide range of control system initiatives in Sparks, NV. In this onsite role, you will own assigned project tasks end-to-end, while also providing technical engineering support for work led by others, taking direction from project leads, supervisors, and company leadership.

Role scope

  • Work on a variety of control system projects.
  • Lead individual project-related tasks and/or complete complicated large-scale projects.
  • Provide engineering support on projects/tasks led by other team members.
  • Assume ultimate responsibility for assigned projects and tasks.
  • Seek guidance from assigned project leads, supervisors, and company leadership as needed.
  • Operate in the field with full self-sufficiency.
  • Serve as the customer’s main contact on projects you lead (for small to mid-sized projects and individual task leadership).

Key responsibilities

  • Lead and assist with start-up and commissioning of control systems.
  • Lead and perform Factory Acceptance Tests (FAT).
  • Read and interpret piping & instrumentation diagrams and wiring diagrams.
  • Provide feedback comparing field conditions versus drawings.
  • Apply experience with Human-Machine Interface (HMI) and Programmable Logic Controller (PLC) applications.
  • Demonstrate deep understanding of the company’s Quality Management System (QMS).
  • Provide review of standard documents generated by others for technical, grammatical, and aesthetic content.
  • Apply a firm understanding of complex control system design and provide instrumentation specifications for complex control systems.
  • Maintain a thorough understanding of Information Technology (IT) systems, network infrastructure, and computer system design as they relate to control system integration.
  • Communicate effectively, positively, and proactively with customers.
  • Follow customer-specific site standards and procedures, and conduct business professionally.
  • Provide excellent customer care and support, remaining patient, attentive, and responsive in problem-solving.
  • Follow up and honor commitments with customers; actively seek to service customer needs.
  • Complete assigned tasks accurately, on schedule, and under budget.
  • Understand assigned scope, identify when issues fall outside scope, and communicate those issues to the assigned project lead.
  • Anticipate possible issues and proactively plan solutions.
  • Seek opportunities for new work with customers and contractors.
  • Deliver detailed feedback on project and task assignments.
  • Demonstrate understanding of project contracts and specifications and the ability to identify and manage risks.
  • Where applicable, direct and oversee junior or subordinate staff members regarding construction, operations, and/or maintenance tasks at a project site.
  • Promote efficient resource use to complete project tasks and contribute to a positive, collaborative team culture.

Minimum requirements

  • Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Computer Science, or another pertinent curriculum combined with relevant technical experience.
  • Typically 4+ years total experience.
  • Proven track record: 2+ years as Lead Control Systems Engineer or equivalent.
  • Decision-making, relationship-building with customers, initiative to seek new responsibilities, and the ability to anticipate issues and use resources efficiently.
  • Typically requires overnight travel up to 50%.
  • On-call rotation participation may be required based on location and client needs.
  • Proof of eligibility to work in the country where the position is located is required.
  • Maintain a valid driver’s license.
  • Fit for Duty at all times.
