Responsibilities
- Research and gather information for project work
- Utilize CAD tools to create, modify, and finalize electrical drawings for construction projects and design reports
- Produce final drawings, verify dimensions, ensure consistency, and confirm completeness
- Develop electrical specifications in the client required format
- Maintain documents within the established filing system
- Follow design standards for city, state, and federal projects as required
- Prepare periodic project status reports
- Review contract requirements to understand deliverables for each phase
- Revise documents per client comments and in-house reviews
- Prepare submission packages per contract requirements
- Provide marketing and technical support
- Present and represent the department at meetings
- Travel to job sites for site investigations and inspections
- Create project schedules to meet submittal dates
- Coordinate work activities with other departments and regulatory agencies
- Take field measurements and obtain design data
- Prepare quantity take-offs and opinions of probable construction costs
- Prepare studies and reports as requested
- Monitor and follow up on project financial health
- Perform other duties as assigned
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering required
- Minimum of 5 years of well-rounded electrical design experience across all phases of design and construction
- Ability to modify existing drawings to minimize new drawings and create new drawings when necessary in a timely fashion
- Effective written and oral communication skills
- Excellent interpersonal skills and strong work ethic
- Ability to read and interpret construction drawings across trades
- Prepare accurate detailed drawings from data provided by field surveys, as-built drawings, markups, worksheets, and design sketches
- Experience with designing major electrical projects is highly preferred
- Knowledge of technical report writing principles and practices
- Strong presentation abilities
- Passed Fundamentals of Engineering exam preferred
- Proficient in MS Office Suite (Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint)
- Proficient in CAD software, AutoCAD, with a minimum of 5 years' experience
- Able to follow project CAD standards and procedures
- Solid understanding of codes and regulations, engineering systems, construction methods, and project delivery processes
- Ability to perform well in a fast paced environment with speed and accuracy
- Client management skills
