Electrical Engineer (Forensic Engineering)
Job Description
This position focuses on forensic electrical engineering, performing field and fire investigations to determine root causes of electrical system failures, evaluating design, construction, operation, and maintenance practices, and delivering technical findings and testimony for legal proceedings.

Compensation
USD 100,000 to 135,000 per year
Responsibilities
- Perform field investigations to establish the root causes of failures, accidents, and performance issues across a broad range of electrical systems, including residential and commercial wiring, transformers, generators, energy storage systems (including lithium-ion batteries), motors, switchgear, insulators, overcurrent protection, grounding and bonding, industrial controls, lighting, and renewable energy installations
- Lead complete fire origin-and-cause investigations
- Analyze design, construction, operation, and maintenance aspects of electrical systems
- Assess the standard of care for engineers, general contractors, subcontractors, service providers, and owners
- Determine causation and accountability for system failures, operational issues, and equipment malfunctions
- Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team of experts
- Present technical findings and conclusions in clear terms, both verbally and in writing
- Provide testimony in legal proceedings, including depositions and court appearances
- Accept and incorporate constructive feedback into performance
- Maintain and advance professional knowledge through workshops, publications, networking, and participation in professional societies
- Support development and retention of clients
- Maintain regular and dependable attendance
- Perform other duties as assigned
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering required; Master's degree preferred
- Ability to learn fire investigation processes; prior fire investigation experience is a significant plus
- Professional Engineer registration, or the ability to obtain within one year
- Minimum of five years of post-academic engineering experience
- Capability to accept and integrate constructive feedback
- Broad knowledge of electrical systems
- Strong writing skills
- Exceptional interpersonal and communication abilities
- Public speaking experience is a plus

Physical Requirements
- Ability to travel up to 25 percent of the time

- Ability to maneuver in and around buildings and climb ladders
- Ability to drive in all conditions

- Ability to visually inspect job sites and relevant artifacts
- Ability to wear personal protective equipment as required by the work site
