Electrical or Senior Electrical Maintenance Engineer

Central Arizona Project (CAP) is looking for an Electrical or Senior Electrical Maintenance Engineer to strengthen its asset management program. In this Phoenix, AZ onsite role, you will apply electrical maintenance discipline expertise to restore electrical system failures to an operable state while leading maintenance engineering efforts that improve reliability and reduce MTTR.

Working as part of CAP’s asset management team, you will support pumping plants, water conveyance systems, and related facilities by developing maintenance approaches, leading restoration activities, and guiding complex repairs and overhauls for critical electrical assets.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide maintenance engineering services for the reliability, availability, and maintenance of CAP pumping plants, water conveyance systems, and facilities.
• Use technical expertise and field experience to improve mean time to repair (MTTR) methods and maintenance efficiency.
• Lead the development of maintenance task procedures for CAP equipment.
• Develop and refine repair scopes of work using technical standards and industry best practices.
• Stay current on trends and new technologies by engaging with other entities and professional societies related to equipment restoration and repair.
• Lead and direct maintenance teams and vendors for large outage and overhaul activities.
• Provide electrical engineering support and restoration activities for large synchronous motors and generators, transformers, backup power generator sets, excitation systems, circuit breakers, switchgear, relays, UPS systems, facilities, cable systems, and other auxiliary systems.
• Support an integrated maintenance program for all CAP facilities using industry best practices.
• Develop, review, and modify maintenance procedures, guidelines, and schedules for electrical, mechanical, civil, and other equipment and structures, including standardization of procedures and frequencies.
• Support execution of complex maintenance repair scopes of work, including overhauls, breakdown and corrective repairs, and replacements in kind (RIK).
• Assist maintenance groups in assessing and troubleshooting plant and canal equipment to restore operability and reduce MTTR.
• Perform Asset Condition Monitoring (ACM) and field data collection, reporting findings using various methods and software.
• Analyze ACM and condition data to determine required repairs and recommend overhaul or replacement actions.
• Develop an ACM program and new testing methods to support reliability and availability of critical assets.
• Develop bill of materials and recommend spare parts inventories for critical assets, including budget recommendations based on asset condition.
• Recommend equipment modifications or upgrades based on operating and maintenance histories when expected performance improvements justify the change.
• Provide work direction to contractors, craftsmen, and other assigned personnel through supervision or as required.
• Mentor junior-level maintenance engineers.

Electrical Systems Coverage

• High, Medium, and Low Voltage systems.

Required Qualifications

• Engineer track: Bachelor of Science degree (or higher) in Electrical Engineering or a closely related field.
• Engineer track: Five (5) years total Electrical Engineering experience.
• Engineer track: Advanced degree or other related experience may substitute for up to two years of Electrical Engineering experience.
• Senior Engineer track: Bachelor of Science degree (or higher) in Electrical Engineering or a closely related field.
• Senior Engineer track: Eight (8) years total Electrical Engineering experience plus one of the following: Registered Professional Engineer; Certified Maintenance and Reliability Professional.
• Senior Engineer track: Twelve (12) years total Electrical Engineering experience if none of the certifications/licenses above are held.
• Senior Engineer track: Advanced degree or other related experience may substitute for up to two years of Electrical Engineering experience.
• Senior Engineer track: Demonstrated ability to perform advanced troubleshooting of CAP-specific equipment, development of complex scopes of work, MTTR efficiency, equipment maintenance plan development, equipment condition assessment, and lead overhaul and major outage repairs.
• Must have a valid driver’s license and maintain a good driving record.
• This is a safety-sensitive position and requires physical testing.

• Certified Maintenance and Reliability Professional (CMRP).

The salary range listed ($96,657 - $135,428) reflects the target hiring range only and does not represent the full pay range for this position.
