Job Description
Wave Central offers a remote-friendly role in New Jersey for engineers who want to shape embedded systems at the intersection of hardware and software. As an Embedded Linux Software Engineer, you will lead the system architecture for digital hardware and embedded Linux within our RF wireless video solutions, collaborating across disciplines to move concepts from concept to production. The position comes with a competitive annual salary of USD 100,000 to 125,000, plus benefits designed to support your health, finances, and career growth.
Responsibilities
- Define and steer system architecture, interfaces, and major design choices across hardware and software domains
- Coordinate multiple engineering disciplines while contributing hands-on to core development
- Convert high level product goals into detailed engineering specifications, tasks, and deliverables
- Design and validate digital hardware, including board bring-up, debugging, and system-level performance testing
- Develop embedded Linux components such as kernel drivers, device trees, system services, and application features
- Collaborate with remote software teams for code reviews, CI workflows, and integration support
- Guide prototyping, system validation, manufacturing transitions, and release processes
- Troubleshoot complex field and production issues across hardware, software, RF, and networking layers
- Provide technical support and documentation for Product Management, Sales Engineering, Operations, and QA
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree is required; Master's degree is preferred in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or related field
- Experience designing and debugging digital hardware systems
- Strong embedded Linux development experience, including kernel, drivers, device trees, and system services
- Proven ability to lead and collaborate within distributed engineering teams
- Proficiency in C/C++ and Python
- Solid networking fundamentals (TCP/IP, routing, VLANs, multicast)
- Experience with oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, power measurement tools, and system-level debugging workflows
- Ability to operate across hardware, software, RF, and networking domains
