Job Description

As an Electrical Engineer 3 at HII's Newport News Shipbuilding, you will design, test, and troubleshoot electrical components and systems while supporting facilities, plant, project, or crane engineering efforts onsite in Newport News, Virginia. The role aligns with a PhD level education and emphasizes basic design tasks and problem solving within a collaborative, on-site setting.

Responsibilities

  • Investigates and contributes to the development and testing of electrical components, equipment, systems, and networks.
  • Conceives electrical equipment, facility infrastructure, components, products, and systems for commercial, industrial, and residential applications.
  • Provides support to facilities projects and the engineering teams in plant, project, or crane engineering streams.
  • Exhibits solid understanding of relevant regulations, codes, and standards applicable to the role.
  • Under minimal supervision from a senior engineer, prepares basic electrical designs.
  • Experience in evaluating, maintaining, and troubleshooting moderately complex power systems and industrial control systems.
  • Develops project execution documents for estimating and planning, and can implement electrical projects with team support.
  • Supports facilities engineering on power infrastructure, controls, building automation, and industrial equipment control systems.
  • Demonstrates structured problem solving and organized thinking.
  • Requires basic proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel) and AutoCAD, with clear communication to supervisors, peers, and customers.
  • Roles include growth in understanding mechanical equipment interfaces with electrical systems, simple mechanical and structural drawings, and basic project scheduling tools.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in engineering with 5 years of relevant exempt experience
  • Master’s Degree with 3 years of relevant professional experience
  • Ph.D. with 0 years of experience
  • ABET accredited engineering bachelor’s degree is required by Newport News Shipbuilding
