Field Services Structural Engineer
Job Description
Onsite Field Services Structural Engineer role in McGregor, TX supporting field remediation and repair engineering for pre-engineered metal buildings and steel structures.
Responsibilities
- Act as the primary structural engineering resource for the Field Service Department, supporting structural analysis during erection, installation, and field construction.
- Assess as-built conditions, discrepancies, and non-conformances; develop practical, code-compliant repair details and engineering solutions.
- Review and seal engineering calculations, repair details, and field modification drawings in registered States as needed; add professional licenses in additional states when required.
- Handle field-generated RFIs promptly and provide direction to erection crews, project managers, and Field Service personnel to reduce schedule impact.
- Perform site visits as needed to evaluate field conditions, verify installed work, and support complex or high-risk issues.
- Partner with Engineering, Detailing, and Fabrication teams to resolve issues earlier and reduce recurrence on future projects.
- Provide engineering guidance for connection modifications, member reinforcement, and repair methods for medium and high complexity structures.
- Document field observations, corrective actions, and engineering justifications following Allied Steel Buildings’ quality and reporting standards.
- Support and mentor the Field Service team on structural behavior, connection design, and erection sequencing considerations.
- Maintain current proficiency with AISC and AISI material specifications and current editions of ASCE 7, IBC, and MBMA.
- Use sound engineering judgment to protect the public without over-conservatism in the design approach.
- Research building code changes that affect field remediation and repair approaches, then recommend updates to Field Service procedures.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil or Structural Engineering.
- Licensed Professional Engineer (P.E.) required; Structural Engineer (S.E.) license is a plus.
- Minimum 10 years of structural engineering experience, including substantial experience in the pre-engineered metal building (PEMB) industry or a related field.
- Experience with MBS design software required.
- Proven ability to evaluate and resolve field conditions on medium and high complexity structures.
- Extensive knowledge of current building code requirements, including seismic design for metal buildings and steel structures.
- Understanding of manufacturing processes and fabrication techniques for pre-engineered metal buildings.
- Ability to read and interpret architectural and structural drawings.
- Willingness and ability to travel to project sites as needed to support Field Service.
- Ability to multi-task and set priorities in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong problem-solving and critical-thinking skills under field time constraints.
- Self-motivated, creative, and adaptable.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Friendly, professional, and comfortable working in a team environment.
- Bilingual in Spanish is a plus.
- Based in Texas preferred; Dallas, Waco, or vicinity to McGregor, TX strongly preferred.
