Job Description
The South Coast Terminals Forward Deployed Software Engineer position is an onsite role in Houston, TX focused on converting business intent into production-ready internal software, automations, integrations, dashboards, and AI-enabled workflows.

- Salary: USD 80,000 - 130,000 per yearly
- Minimum experience: 5 years
Role Overview
In this forward deployed capacity, you will collaborate with Finance, Planning & Logistics, Commercial, Operations, QA/QC, IT, and Transformation. You will build tools and integrations that support business decisions, operational workflows, and measurable outcomes across multiple functional areas.
Responsibilities
- Translate business intent into working software, automations, integrations, dashboards, and AI-enabled workflows.
- Partner directly with business users to understand processes, decisions, data, pain points, and opportunities.
- Convert operational knowledge into requirements, technical designs, and production-ready solutions.
- Build internal tools using technologies such as relational and NoSQL databases, Microsoft 365, SharePoint, Graph API, Python, TypeScript/JavaScript, Power Platform, Azure, and ERP/business system integrations.
- Deliver automation and decision support across finance and accounting, planning and logistics, contract and customer intelligence, and commercial enablement.
- Create secure AI workflows that include permissions, human review, audit logs, source grounding, and clear operating controls.
- Develop reusable patterns for requirements, architecture, testing, deployment, monitoring, documentation, and feedback.
- Own selected existing tools and improve reliability, documentation, monitoring, and supportability.
- Work with IT to strengthen platform operations, access governance, observability, and reliability.
- Collaborate with Transformation and department leaders to prioritize work linked to measurable business outcomes.
- Perform all other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
- Five (5) to eight (8) years of experience in software engineering, systems integration, data engineering, business systems, internal tools, or IT automation.
- Strong SQL skills and experience with relational and NoSQL databases.
- Experience with Python, TypeScript/JavaScript, C#, or another practical production language.
- Experience building APIs, scripts, automations, dashboards, integrations, or internal applications.
- Experience with Azure and familiarity with GitHub or modern source control.
- Practical understanding of authentication, permissions, logging, monitoring, deployment, documentation, and production support.
Preferred Qualifications
- Manufacturing, logistics, finance operations, ERP, industrial operations, or supply chain experience.
- Data modeling, Docker, CI/CD, cloud infrastructure, or AI/LLM workflow experience.
