Geotechnical Engineer
Job Description
Geotechnical engineering role at AECOM Technical Services in Oakland, CA focusing on field investigations, analyses, deformation and liquefaction assessments for dam projects and related structures.
Responsibilities
- Conduct geotechnical field inspections, geologic mapping, landslide mapping, and crack monitoring on dam abutments and around reservoir rims to assess subsurface conditions.
- Perform stability analyses, including seepage assessments, materials characterization, and additional modeling for embankment dam designs across multiple projects.
- Carry out deformation analyses on selected embankment designs and prepare data for numerical modeling.
- Execute liquefaction triggering assessments for dam projects, and compute lateral earth pressures and bearing capacity for related structures.
- Prepare ground motion response spectra for different earthquake models to support reporting.
- Plan field investigations, coordinate and supervise activities, including drafting work plans and health and safety plans, and coordinating with subcontractors and client representatives.
Requirements
- Master's degree in Civil Engineering, Environmental Engineering, or a related field.
- Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Environmental Engineering, or a related field, plus two years of experience as a geotechnical engineer or in a related occupation.
