Job Description

The Hardware Engineer will drive electronics hardware development at Lionel LLC, with a focus on analog and embedded digital design, EMC testing, and production support for toy trains, alongside some coding tasks.

Responsibilities

  • Perform bench level prototyping and development using both analog and embedded digital components.
  • Create schematics and PCB layouts with EMC considerations to ensure compliant designs.
  • Coordinate EMC testing by scheduling and conducting tests at third-party laboratories.
  • Provide manufacturing engineering support by evaluating production samples and diagnosing failures impacting yield.
  • Assist Product Managers by reviewing manuals to capture new functions/features and to include appropriate regulatory remarks by sales region.
  • Support the Sales Team by registering new SKUs with Bluetooth SIG and generating SDoC related to EMC compliance.
  • Support Customer Service with training on new products and troubleshooting corner-case issues.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering and a minimum of five years of PCBA design experience.
  • At least five years of hands-on experience in analog and embedded digital hardware design is required.
  • RF transceiver experience is a plus.
  • Altium Designer experience is a plus.
  • Strong proficiency with lab equipment including oscilloscope, electronic load, LISN, spectrum analyzer, VNA, and EMC probes.
  • Ability to solder fine-pitch devices (0.5 mm) is required.
  • Working knowledge of embedded C/C++ is required.
  • Experience with microcontroller programmers such as PICKit2 and Atmel ICE is required.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, and Excel; familiarity with Microsoft Visual SourceSafe is a plus.
