Job Description
Healthcare Engineer position with the US Veterans Health Administration in St. Louis, MO (onsite); salary range USD 118,518 - 154,076 per year; requires a Bachelor's degree or higher in Engineering or Architecture and at least 1 year of experience.
Responsibilities
- Deliver engineering support to the VA Saint Louis Health Care System; maintain current construction specifications and drawings; manage a technical reference library of codes, standards, and regulatory references.
- Act as the healthcare engineering advisor, consultant, designer, contract administrator, project manager, construction coordinator, and trainer throughout the design and construction lifecycle of all assigned projects.
- Fulfills Contracting Officer Representative duties on professional design and construction projects; trains facility staff on technical issues and assists with technical and administrative aspects of infrastructure operations.
- Apply engineering and managerial skills to healthcare engineering to support patient care, performing cross-disciplinary reviews to assist with construction document reviews and preparation.
- Oversee healthcare engineering project design and construction management in accordance with VA policies, VA Design Guides and Manuals, VA Master Specifications, and related industry codes and standards.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Requirements
- U.S. citizenship is required.
- Selective Service Registration is required for males born after 12/31/1959.
- Proficiency in written and spoken English.
- Subject to background and security investigation.

- Participation in the seasonal influenza vaccination program is a requirement for all VA Health Care Personnel.

- Bachelor's degree or higher in Engineering or Architecture from an ABET-accredited program (or equivalent).
- Evidence of passing the Fundamentals of Engineering Examination with a bachelor's degree (Engineering in Training certificate or NCEES results).
- Evidence of current professional registration or licensure as a Professional Engineer or Architect.
- Knowledge of mechanical, electrical, structural, civil and other engineering or architectural principles and their applications in a healthcare setting.
- Knowledge of healthcare industry standards and regulatory bodies such as TJC, OSHA, and NFPA, including related regulations, guides, and standards.
- Knowledge of construction standards, methods, practices, and materials to determine compliance with engineering regulations and standards.
- Strong ability to research and analyze information, consider human factors, and make sound engineering and business recommendations within applicable rules and procedures.
- Ability to plan and execute complex, multi-faceted projects and inspections while prioritizing resources against approved scopes, contract documents, and budgets.
- Ability to organize and lead multi-disciplinary teams and coordinate with design and construction firms and internal departments.
