Highway Project Engineer
Job Description
HNTB Corporation is seeking a Highway Project Engineer to support and manage highway-discipline work across small to complex transportation projects throughout Maine, New Hampshire, and Vermont. Based onsite in Burlington, VT, the role blends technical delivery with project management support, collaboration across multiple engineering disciplines, and guidance for junior staff.
Working with regional teams and clients, you will help prepare and/or review roadway transportation deliverables, support schedule and budget discipline, and contribute to proposal and scope development activities as projects are pursued.

Responsibilities
- Collaborate with and support a multi-discipline team to complete small to complex projects across Maine, New Hampshire, and Vermont.
- Support the development and growth of junior staff.
- Coordinate with clients to advance projects and build effective working relationships.
- Prepare and/or check reports, plans, calculations, estimates, specifications, and designs related to roadway transportation projects.
- Assist with project management duties, including control of project quality, budget, and scope.
- Organize and execute a plan to deliver highway discipline scope requirements within a small team, aligned to schedule and budget.
- Support marketing efforts to pursue additional projects, including proposal generation.
- Plan and distribute discipline-specific work and maintain adherence to project schedule and budget.
- Assist with development of scope of work and level of effort for projects and assignments within the discipline.
- Oversee completeness and accuracy of the project team’s technical work, guiding and mentoring the team toward overall project objectives.
- Coordinate technical aspects of projects with client counterparts and teaming partners at staff level within the discipline.
- Work closely with other disciplines on multi-discipline projects.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering and 6 years of relevant experience, or
- Master’s degree in Engineering and 5 years of relevant experience, or
- PhD in Engineering and 4 years of relevant experience
- Design experience on MaineDOT, NHDOT, and/or VTrans projects.
- Registered Professional Engineer in Maine, New Hampshire, or Vermont (or ability to obtain).
- Experience using Microsoft Office, Microstation, InRoads, and OpenRoads.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
