Hotel Chief Engineer
Job Description
The Hotel Chief Engineer leads day-to-day facilities maintenance and engineering operations at The Elizabeth Hotel in Fort Collins, CO. The role oversees mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and HVAC systems while managing staff and supporting a safe, compliant environment for guests and employees.
Key Responsibilities
- Supervise Engineering employees, including interviewing, scheduling, training, coaching, and providing performance review input; address problems and recommend discipline as appropriate.
- Implement and schedule preventive maintenance for property and equipment in line with corporate or franchise standards and applicable local, state, and national codes and regulations.
- Manage service requests by prioritizing, scheduling, and monitoring completed work to support customer satisfaction, safety, and convenience.
- Test and examine life safety systems to ensure they are fully operational at all times to protect the asset, guests, and employees.
- Monitor utility consumption to evaluate effectiveness of current systems.
- Review purchase requests and monitor expenses to support budgeted goals.
- Support department administration by preparing and maintaining schedules, logs, records, and other documentation to maintain smooth operations and minimize liabilities.
Required Qualifications
- Advanced knowledge of the Building Management or Engineering profession, including experiential knowledge for managing people and complex problems.
- Ability to investigate and analyze current activities or information in a specialized field using readily available data to form logical conclusions and recommendations.
- Supervisory skills.
- Ability to provide information and associated services to hotel management and guests.
- Comprehension and literacy for procedures, reports, instructions, and receipts.
- Ability to communicate with management and staff.
- Ability to visually inspect hotel premises.
- Ability to lift, push, pull, and carry weights up to 25 lbs. and greater for hotel equipment and machinery.
- Frequent bending and/or kneeling throughout the day for repairs and maintenance.
- Mobility throughout the hotel across all floors, varying heights, and distances; use of ladders and lifts as needed.
- Continuous standing in varying degrees throughout the day.
- Climbing approximately 210 steps (about 10% of each day).
- Climbing ladders approximately 20 feet (about 5% of each day).
- Limited driving on an occasional basis for supplies and equipment, generally within 20 miles.
Experience and Education
- Experience: 2 to 3 full years of full employment in a related position with this company or other organization(s).
- Management experience: 2 years (required).
- Hotel experience: 1 year (preferred).
- Education/Training: One to two years of post high school education.
Work Environment and Physical Demands
- Work inside 95% of the week and outside 5% of the week.
- Exposure to abnormal temperatures, including walk-in freezers below 32 degrees for approximately 1% of the time.
- Use of power hand tools (for example, circular saw and drill).

Compensation
Estimated salary: USD 75,000 - 85,000 per year.
