Job Description
Sonnenalp Hotel in Vail, Colorado, is seeking a dependable HVAC Maintenance Engineer to maintain and repair the property’s climate-control systems and keep operations running smoothly year round. This onsite, full-time role prioritizes a safe and comfortable environment for guests and staff by ensuring reliable HVAC performance and well-managed facilities.

Requirements
- High school diploma or GED is required.
- Minimum 3 years of experience in building maintenance, HVAC systems, or facility engineering (preferably in a hotel, resort, large commercial building, or similar environment).
- Experience working with boilers, chillers, refrigeration systems, and building automation systems is required.
- EPA Section 608 Refrigerant Certification strongly preferred.
- Additional certifications including HVAC Technician Certification, Building Operator Certification (BOC), or Certified Pool Operator (CPO) are considered an asset.
Responsibilities
- Perform daily maintenance rounds and checks of boilers, water temperatures, circulating pumps, water and electric meters, compressors, air handlers, and related equipment.
- Address work orders issued by the Chief Engineer.
- Plan ahead for seasonal and special projects to ensure adequate extra help or contractor availability.
- Procure major parts, equipment, and tools for all facilities.
- Provide courteous, professional responses to guests at all times.
- Develop and implement preventative maintenance programs for all facilities and equipment.
- Attend meetings as necessary.
- Serve as a backup for Chief Engineer duties on days off.
- Assist co-workers, the Kitchen/Laundry Mechanic, and the Chief Engineer in engineering functions on and off site.
- Supervise, oversee, and coordinate engineering staff.
- Inspect and evaluate employees’ work, including daily tasks and preventive maintenance, with follow-up as needed.
- Train new engineering staff and evaluate readiness for handling engineering calls, especially night shifts.
- Use and interpret HotSOS Work Order System, Trane BMS, and Niagara BMS.
- Follow emergency, safety, and sanitary procedures precisely.
- Maintain organized shops, mechanical rooms, work areas, and storerooms.
- Support boilers, chillers, general HVAC, refrigeration, drains/sumps, and building management system usage.
- Provide coverage at One Willow Bridge Road when the OWB engineer is not present, and at the Golf Course when the Chief Engineer is not present.
- Perform any further duties as required by the Chief Engineer.

Primary Purpose of Position
The HVAC Technician role involves supporting engineering staff and maintaining, repairing, and upgrading Sonnenalp equipment and building facilities across Sonnenalp properties. It includes backing up the Kitchen/Laundry Mechanic and requires familiarity with the hotel building and its systems. The position includes staff supervision and assisting the Chief Engineer to ensure guest satisfaction, with an emphasis on keeping facilities maintained to a high standard within budget parameters.
