Job Description
Responsibilities
- Serve as the electrical team lead, directing detailed design phases across all aspects of electrical engineering work.
- Steer project execution to meet scope, schedule, and budget expectations.
- Coordinate systems design activities to ensure installation and operation comply with specifications, codes, and client requirements.
- Develop and review detailed electrical calculations, including arc flash, voltage drop, fault current, and lighting analyses.
- Produce design input documentation for drawing production, including master diagrams and master schematics.
- Interface with vendors to prepare material and equipment purchase specifications for client recommendations.
- Prepare reports and studies that present technical information clearly and align with client requirements and S&L formats.
- Perform independent reviews of others’ work, including calculations and drawing preparation.
- Foster professional growth through peer-learning and participation in S&L’s Communities of Practice.
- Provide mentorship to developing engineers.
Requirements
- Must be a U.S. Citizen; dual citizenship with a country other than the U.S. does not qualify.
- Ability to obtain a US Government security clearance.
- BSEE degree from an ABET-accredited program required; MSEE preferred.
- Desire and ability to obtain Professional Engineer licensure.
- Ability to obtain a DOE “Q” level clearance.
- 10+ years of experience in electrical design within a project team environment, ideally in commercial power, DOE, nuclear Navy, or NNSA, focusing on integrated, detailed system design for new plants or modifications/replacements for existing plants.
- 3+ years of experience leading an engineering design team through all project phases.
- Technical knowledge of available equipment and proven pre-engineered systems to execute system designs.
- Experience serving as a firm/client liaison in a support or lead engineering role.
- Experience reviewing design drawings produced by others.

- Leaders often direct automation and process-improvement efforts, such as automating calculations, summarizing technical documents, or generating design documentation, while ensuring outputs are reviewed.
- Overseeing teams that program or script (for example, Python, MATLAB, advanced Excel) to automate engineering tasks, with review of automated outputs, is valued but not required.
- Additional learning in Computer Science, AI, Software Engineering, or related fields can enhance oversight of automation-enabled workflows.
About this Business Unit
Sargent & Lundy’s Government Services Division provides engineering design and consulting support to the management and operating contractors for U.S. Department of Energy sites and national laboratories, including the Environmental Management Directorate and National Nuclear Security Administration laboratories. The work spans multi-discipline teams focused on projects that address environmental cleanup and legacy challenges.

Compensation Range
Compensation Range: $118,023 - $180,313
