Job Description

This senior mechanical engineering role supports design work for U.S. Department of Energy Strategic Petroleum Reserve projects. The successful candidate will serve as Engineer of Record, stamping mechanical designs for federal, mission-critical petroleum storage and transfer facilities.

Responsibilities

  • Act as Engineer of Record and stamp/seal mechanical design documents.
  • Lead the design of mechanical systems including pumping, piping and fluid transfer, tank and pipeline support, and industrial HVAC.
  • Specify equipment and prepare procurement packages; perform hydraulic and mechanical calculations for petroleum and utility systems.
  • Ensure compliance with ASME codes, NFPA standards, UFC criteria, and DOE/federal requirements.
  • Develop technical specifications, design narratives, and construction documents.
  • Coordinate with civil, structural, electrical, and process disciplines.
  • Support value engineering efforts and internal design quality reviews.
  • Provide construction phase support including RFIs, submittals, site visits, and commissioning support.
  • Participate in field investigations and system condition assessments.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering.
  • Active Professional Engineer (PE) license required; licensed in Louisiana and Texas or able to obtain reciprocity in both states.
  • 12+ years of progressive mechanical design experience.
  • Demonstrated experience serving as Engineer of Record and stamping construction documents.
  • Experience with industrial piping systems, pump selection and hydraulic analysis, and pressure vessels and tank systems.
  • HVAC design for industrial or mission-critical facilities.
  • Experience supporting federal clients (DOE, USACE, VA, DOD preferred).
  • Familiarity with ASME, NFPA, and applicable federal codes.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain required site access and security clearance.

Position overview

This full-time role requires an experienced Senior Mechanical Engineer with an active PE license who can independently stamp and seal engineering documents. Highly preferred qualifications

  • Fire Protection Engineering licensure or substantial FPE experience

  • Construction phase engineering support experience
