Job Description
Atom Computing is seeking a Principal Software Engineer to provide technical leadership for the software platform that orchestrates quantum workloads. This role interfaces with a partner team responsible for hardware control and calibration, guiding architecture across a Python and Rust backend with a TypeScript/React frontend, and is based onsite in Boulder, Colorado.
Compensation
- Salary: USD 180,000 - 220,000 per year
Responsibilities
- Provide technical leadership for a core area of the software platform, shaping design decisions and aligning projects with the broader team roadmap.
- Drive architectural choices across the software stack that coordinates quantum computing workloads, collaborating with the partner team responsible for hardware control and calibration, and overseeing the platform's experimental data.
- Create innovative technologies and solutions to advance the technology roadmap, with opportunities to contribute to inventions and patents.
- Refactor and productionize prototype code from Quantum Engineers into reliable, well-tested services, establishing repeatable patterns for the team.
- Mentor engineers across the team, elevating code quality, design, documentation, and engineering practices.
- Deploy, monitor, and support the production platform, participating in a on-call rotation to maintain reliable access to quantum systems for customers.
- Collaborate with the infrastructure team to strengthen CI/CD pipelines, delivering improvements that speed up and stabilize software delivery.
- Represent the engineering work externally in customer and partner engagements and in the broader technical community when appropriate.
Requirements
- Strong passion for software development with a proven track record of designing and implementing architecture-level features in complex systems.
- Proficiency in Python and SQL.
- Experience developing and operating software in Linux environments.
- Familiarity with Git, automated testing, and modern software development practices.
- Willingness to learn atomic, optical, laser physics, and quantum mechanics concepts relevant to the work.
- Bachelor's degree in a related field.
- At least 10 years of professional software engineering experience.
