Job Description

VOCAL Technologies Inc. is hiring a Senior Software Engineer to support Telecommunications and Embedded Systems development in Buffalo, NY. In this role, you will design and implement real-time DSP and embedded firmware using C/C++, with work that includes both firmware architecture and performance-oriented analysis for embedded processors.

The position also involves clearance eligibility and US work authorization requirements due to the nature of some government contracting. This is a full-time, in-person opportunity focused on building and refining software that supports transmit and receive signal processing in real-world embedded environments.

Role Overview

  • Design and implement real-time DSP algorithms for embedded processors.
  • Build firmware solutions across bare metal, RTOS-based, and Linux-based approaches.
  • Analyze algorithm performance impact by estimating processing resources including MIPS, ROM, and RAM.
  • Coordinate software and hardware development activities, including prototyping, tuning algorithms, and testing performance.
  • Conduct research into new technologies and how they can be incorporated into VOCAL’s custom products.

Responsibilities

  • Design fast, efficient DSP algorithms for implementation on embedded processors.
  • Architect and implement bare metal, RTOS-based, and Linux firmware designs.
  • Estimate processing resources such as MIPS, ROM, and RAM to understand performance implications.
  • Coordinate with other engineers on prototyping, algorithm tuning, and performance testing.
  • Research new technologies for potential use in VOCAL’s custom products.

Requirements

  • Legally authorized to work in the United States without sponsorship.
  • Clearance eligibility.
  • Experience designing, developing, and testing real-time systems involving signal processing algorithms.
  • 7+ years of C/C++ development experience, including implementing DSP modules in embedded real-time environments such as commercial DSPs and ARM-based platforms.
  • Strong understanding of wired and wireless communications systems and digital signal processing of analog and digital waveforms for transmit and receive functions.
  • Knowledge of communication theory including decision theory, estimation theory, and modulation-demodulation.
  • Systems engineering experience such as data communications architectures, telecom network design, protocol analysis, and protocol selection.
  • Experience with networking protocols: TCP/UDP/IP, RTP, MPLS, NDN.
  • Embedded hardware interfacing: SPI, TDM, Ethernet, USB, I2C.
  • Familiarity with telecom protocol standards: ITU-T, IETF, 3GPP.
  • Creative and critical thinking, troubleshooting skills, collaboration, and strong written and verbal communication.
