Job Description
Senior Software Engineer to join MetTel's Bruin Platform Integration team in New York City, onsite, with a compensation range of USD 150,000 to 180,000 per year.
Responsibilities
- SDK and Public API Ownership: lead end-to-end design, delivery, and evolution of the Bruin SDK and Bruin's public APIs, including contract design, versioning strategy, pagination, error handling, authentication, rate limiting, and language-idiomatic ergonomics.
- Developer Experience Portal: manage the Bruin developer portal as a product, delivering quickstart guides, API reference, code samples, an interactive playground, an SDK changelog, and a synchronized documentation pipeline; treat docs as a first-class engineering deliverable.
- Bruin Integration Marketplace: design and expand the Connector marketplace catalog, own the connector framework, certification model, secrets management, observability, and onboarding experiences; deliver foundational connectors across ticketing and enterprise systems such as ServiceNow, Jira, Zendesk, Freshservice, and BMC, plus HR feeds, MDM, SSO, zero-touch provisioning, and mobile threat defense.
- Enterprise Integration Patterns: apply standard patterns for webhook delivery and retry, eventual consistency, schema evolution, idempotency, replay, and observability across diverse customer environments; design to prevent production issues.
- AI-Native Integration Patterns: craft integration experiences compatible with modern AI agents and AI-native applications, including clear tool semantics and well-described capabilities to enable safe AI-first use of the platform.
- Customer & Partner Collaboration: collaborate directly with customer engineering teams during marketplace onboarding and early adopter programs, feeding real-world integration feedback into SDK, API, and connector design.
- Code Quality: perform code reviews, deliver well-tested, maintainable code, and uphold a high engineering bar; mentor junior and mid-level engineers as needed.
Requirements
- Developer-facing surfaces: proven track record shipping SDKs, public APIs, or platform products that external developers integrate against.
- Experience: 7+ years of professional software engineering with substantial time on SDK/public API/platform engineering.
- Production ownership: demonstrated ownership of a developer-facing SDK or public API at production scale, with clear design decisions, trade-offs, and roadmap considerations.
- Languages: strong proficiency in at least two modern languages, with TypeScript/JavaScript and Node.js preferred; working knowledge of additional ecosystems (e.g., .NET, Python, Go, Ruby, Java) and appropriate SDK conventions.
- Developer discovery: experience designing APIs and SDKs optimized for developer discovery, including predictable naming, strong type definitions, rich inline documentation, and IDE-friendly patterns.
- Developer portal & docs: hands-on experience building or contributing to a developer portal or docs site, with docs-as-code, OpenAPI specs, generated SDKs, and reference content.
- Enterprise integration concerns: practical experience with OAuth 2.0 / OIDC, SAML, SCIM, webhooks, REST, GraphQL, retry and idempotency patterns, and schema versioning.
- Containerization & CI/CD: hands-on experience with Kubernetes, Docker, and CI/CD pipelines.
- Cloud familiarity: adjacent experience with AWS, Azure, or GCP, with patterns transferable to on-prem environments.
- AI-assisted development: proficiency with AI-assisted tooling (Claude Code, Copilot, Cursor, or similar) as part of the engineering workflow.
- Communication: strong written communication for SDK docs, API design docs, and customer-facing integration guides; clear, customer-centric documentation.
- Customer empathy: prior experience working directly with developers integrating against your product and using feedback to shape design.
