Job Description

Index AR Solutions seeks a Senior Software Engineer to strengthen backend services built with C# and SQL Server. The role centers on developing APIs and data-driven solutions for both internal initiatives and client-facing greenfield projects, all within a hybrid work setup based in Williamsburg, Virginia. The compensation ranges from $100,000 to $120,000 per year, and the position requires US citizenship.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to understand business goals, user needs, and product direction.
  • Participate in Agile/Scrum ceremonies and contribute to incremental delivery and continuous improvement.
  • Explain tradeoffs, ask insightful questions, and align implementation details with intended outcomes.
  • Design, build, and maintain backend services and APIs using the .NET stack with emphasis on reliability, security, and performance.
  • Design relational database schemas and implement performant queries and data access patterns using MS SQL Server.
  • Apply clean coding standards, secure coding practices, and SOLID design principles in daily development.
  • Develop modern web UI components as needed using React, Vite, Next.js, or similar frameworks.
  • Collaborate across backend and frontend concerns (auth flows, API contracts, error handling, user experience implications) while focusing on backend delivery.
  • Contribute to solution design using patterns such as microservices, domain-driven design, event-driven systems, and RESTful services, guided by senior technical leaders as needed.
  • Participate in design reviews to ensure maintainability and alignment with team standards.
  • Integrate applications with Identity & Access Management providers (Entra ID or Auth0).
  • Assist integration with enterprise systems such as LMS, EAM, and HCM systems.
  • Write and maintain unit, integration, and end-to-end tests to reduce regression risk.
  • Develop proof-of-concepts to evaluate new tools and frameworks when appropriate.
  • Build software with operational readiness in mind, including observability, resilience, and secure-by-default practices.
  • Use Docker containers to simplify and standardize deployments.
  • Apply infrastructure-as-code patterns (such as Bicep) to provision Azure resources like App Services, Azure SQL Databases, Storage Accounts, Function Apps, and Key Vaults.
  • Leverage message brokers such as Azure Service Bus or RabbitMQ for event-driven workflows when appropriate.
  • Adopt Git branching strategies appropriate to the project.
  • Contribute to CI/CD pipelines in Azure DevOps, including practical quality gates (linting, static analysis, build/test automation).
  • Utilize modern AI tools responsibly to accelerate development tasks while preserving code quality and security.
  • Stay informed about AI developments that may improve engineering workflows.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in a related field.
  • 7+ years of professional experience in software engineering using C# and modern cross-platform .NET.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities, attention to detail, and clear written and verbal communication.
  • Experience building and supporting back-end services (APIs) with data access and MS SQL Server.
  • Working knowledge of modern front-end web development (React/Vite/Next.js or similar) to contribute when needed.
  • Experience using AI tools thoughtfully within the software development lifecycle to improve productivity while maintaining quality and security.
