Job Description

Senior Structural Engineer role with SE license at Alpha Structural, a design-build firm serving Southern California, onsite in Sunland.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as Engineer of Record for complex structural repair and retrofit projects
  • Design, analyze, and stamp structural plans in accordance with the California Building Code and local jurisdiction requirements
  • Oversee engineering calculations, plan development, and final technical approvals
  • Lead, mentor, and develop a team of engineers, drafters, and technical staff
  • Conduct peer reviews to ensure engineering quality and consistency
  • Collaborate with Production, Sales, and Executive teams to support project success
  • Participate in site visits, structural observations, and inspections as needed
  • Coordinate with local building departments and assist with permit approvals (including LADBS)
  • Develop and improve internal engineering standards, systems, and best practices
  • Provide technical expertise during pre-construction and support complex project scoping

Requirements

  • Master’s Degree in Civil or Structural Engineering
  • Active California Structural Engineer (SE) License – Required
  • 15+ years of progressive structural engineering experience
  • Strong expertise in wood framing, concrete, steel, foundations, and retrofit systems
  • Extensive knowledge of California Building Code and local permitting requirements
  • Proficiency in engineering and drafting software (RAM, RISA, CAD, Revit, or similar)
  • Proven leadership experience managing and developing engineering teams

Work Environment

This position blends office work with field and jobsite activities across Southern California. Candidates should be comfortable visiting sites, performing structural observations, and collaborating with field teams as needed.

  • Familiarity with Southern California jurisdictions and permitting processes
  • Experience supporting field operations and construction execution
