Job Description

As a Software Engineer on CVS Health’s Data Engineering team, you will help deliver a new end-to-end internal self-service application. The focus is on modernizing how teams ingest, monitor, and preview data through a React and Python-based platform deployed with CI/CD practices.

Role Summary

You will build and evolve an internal self-service capability that improves data access and management. The platform supports self-service ingestion, automated monitoring and incident management, and data preview functionality. Work is performed under the guidance of senior engineers for integration with core data and pipeline components.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain features for a full-stack application using React (TypeScript) and Python.
  • Build frontend components and contribute to backend services, including APIs, data models, and basic caching.
  • Write clean, well-tested code and ensure thorough unit and integration test coverage for changes.
  • Participate in code reviews by both giving and receiving constructive feedback to uphold team quality standards.
  • Integrate with Kafka-driven pipelines and the Snowflake data platform.
  • Contribute to CI/CD pipelines and validate functional correctness of code after deployment.
  • Implement logging and basic observability instrumentation for features you build.
  • Communicate blockers and progress clearly, escalating issues with appropriate urgency.
  • Use AI development tools such as Claude, Snowflake CoCo, and Copilot to improve development speed and code quality.
  • Seek mentorship and coaching from senior engineers and share learnings with teammates.

Required Qualifications

  • 3-5 years of professional software development experience.
  • Hands-on experience building applications using React (TypeScript) and Python.
  • Experience developing and consuming REST APIs.
  • Experience writing unit and integration tests with established testing frameworks.
  • Proficiency with Git version control, including branching, pull requests, and code review workflows.

Technologies

React, TypeScript, Python, REST APIs, Kafka, Snowflake, CI/CD pipelines, Git, Claude, Snowflake CoCo, Copilot, Docker, Azure DevOps, GitHub Actions, gRPC, Terraform, Terraform/infrastructure-as-code concepts, JWT, Okta, policy-based auth, DBT, SQL Server, Postgres.

About the Project: Data Self-Service Platform

The Data Self-Service Platform addresses key challenges in current data operations. In many cases, data ingestion is manual and ticket-driven, which can introduce delays and reduce self-service options for application teams.

In this role, you will help build a platform that allows data owners to ingest, transform, and serve their data with clear control and accountability for data quality. The platform will support collaboration between data producers and consumers, enabling teams to address issues directly and streamline testing changes.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with containerized development (Docker) and CI/CD pipelines (Azure DevOps or GitHub Actions).
  • Familiarity with Kafka or similar event-streaming platforms.
  • Exposure to relational databases and/or cloud data platforms such as Snowflake, SQL Server, and Postgres.
  • Experience with gRPC API development.
  • Experience with AI-enhanced development tools including Claude, Snowflake CoCo, or Copilot.
  • Basic exposure to Terraform or infrastructure-as-code concepts.
  • Awareness of structured logging, health check patterns, and observability tooling.
  • Familiarity with authentication and authorization concepts such as JWT, Okta, and policy-based auth.
