Software Engineer
Job Description
Salesforce is hiring a Software Engineer (GovCloud) in Bellevue, WA (onsite) to help build and run large-scale distributed systems and public-cloud infrastructure automation. This role blends production engineering with AI agent capabilities, focusing on concurrency, reliability, security, and the practical use of Infrastructure-as-Code.
In this position, you will deliver automation tools, develop resilient backend services, and integrate AI into production workflows in a way that improves efficiency without compromising correctness, security, or performance. The work includes building shared system context to help AI operate accurately and reliably across complex, real-world constraints.
What you’ll do
- Deliver cloud infrastructure automation tools, frameworks, workflows, and validation platforms across public cloud environments including AWS, GCP, Azure, or Alibaba
- Design, develop, debug, and operate distributed systems that run across thousands of compute nodes across multiple data centers
- Build and ship production-grade software using modern engineering practices, using AI as a core part of development workflows through tools such as Cursor, Windsurf, Claude, and the OpenAI API
- Use and contribute to open source technologies including Spinnaker and Zookeeper
- Develop Infrastructure-as-Code with Terraform
- Write microservices using containerization frameworks such as Kubernetes, Docker, and Mesos
- Design and orchestrate complex systems where AI agents integrate into human workflows at scale
- Contribute to a shared system context repository containing system designs, constraints, and standards that support accurate and reliable AI output
- Critically evaluate code produced by humans or AI for correctness, quality, security, and performance
- Resolve complex technical issues and drive innovations that improve availability, resilience, and performance
- Balance live-site management, feature delivery, and retirement of technical debt
- Participate in the team on-call rotation to address complex problems in real time and maintain highly available services
What you bring
- Related technical degree required
- 3+ years of backend software development experience
- Deep knowledge of programming in Java, Golang, Python, or Ruby
- Experience owning and operating multiple instances of a critical service
- Experience with Agile development methodology and Test Driven Development
- Experience with critical infrastructure services including monitoring, alerting, logging, and reporting
- Experience with distributed database systems and relational databases like PostgreSQL is a plus
- A demonstrated, genuine AI-first approach to engineering, using AI to move faster and contributing beyond core specialty
- Experience using AI tools in development workflows (e.g., Claude Code, GitHub Copilot, Codex, Cursor)
- Advanced prompt engineering skills, including the ability to write precise, structured prompts and cultivate system context for reliable, secure, production-ready AI outputs
