Join Varsity Brands in a hybrid role based in Farmers Branch, TX, where you will help design, build, and deliver backend services, APIs, and system components that support a modern unified digital platform. The Software Engineer II position emphasizes independent ownership, end-to-end feature delivery, and reliable production support, with opportunities to strengthen engineering practices while collaborating across Product, Design, QA, and other engineering teams.

What You’ll Do

Design, develop, and maintain backend services and APIs aligned to platform architecture
Own end-to-end feature delivery, from design through deployment and support
Troubleshoot and resolve production issues, identifying root causes and implementing effective solutions
Apply testing, performance optimization, and secure coding practices
Contribute to CI/CD pipelines, monitoring, and system reliability improvements
Participate in technical design discussions and contribute to solution approaches
Collaborate with Product, Design, QA, and other engineering teams to deliver solutions
Design scalable components and services within established architecture, making independent technical decisions within defined patterns
Improve engineering velocity and system reliability through high-quality development practices
Support platform consistency, reuse, and performance across engineering teams, including the transition to scalable, API-driven services and shared platform capabilities
Drive adoption of shared platform capabilities through consistent, reusable service development
Provide guidance and mentorship to junior engineers (including SE I)

What You Bring

2 to 5 years of professional software engineering experience
Strong understanding of backend systems and service-based architecture
Working knowledge of cloud environments and distributed systems
Understanding of system design principles and data modeling
Proficiency in Java and backend development frameworks
Ability to design and build RESTful APIs
Ability to optimize system performance and scalability
Ability to implement testing strategies and debugging techniques
Experience working with CI/CD pipelines and production systems
Solves moderately complex technical problems independently and diagnoses root causes
Navigates ambiguity within defined domains
Collaborates effectively with cross-functional teams (Product, Design, QA)
Demonstrates accountability for end-to-end delivery outcomes and balances speed, quality, and reliability
Provides guidance and support to junior engineers
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related technical discipline (or equivalent combination of education and experience)
