Job Description

American Express is hiring a Software Engineer II to design, develop, test, and debug software applications while helping deliver reliable software through code reviews and automated testing. Based in Sunrise, FL with an onsite working model, this role supports and monitors software across environments and follows security and regulatory best practices.

The position focuses on building quality into each release and maintaining strong engineering practices across the software lifecycle. You will contribute to software builds, participate in review processes, and help troubleshoot defects to support remediation.

What You’ll Do

What You’ll Bring

  • A degree in computer science, computer engineering, or a related field
  • 5+ years of professional software development experience using Java technologies, including Vertx, Spring, Spring Boot, RESTful micro services, PostgreSQL, Cassandra, Kafka, Python, IntelliJ, Couchbase, OpenSearch, and RESTful APIs
  • Hands-on experience with application design, software development, and automated testing
  • Experience with distributed (multi-tiered) systems, algorithms, and relational or NoSQL databases
  • Ability to interpret technical and business objectives and translate challenges into effective solutions
  • Ability to learn and investigate new technology and business domains, challenge the status quo, and think creatively
  • Competence in debugging basic software components and identifying code defects for remediation
  • Experience working in Agile or other rapid application development methods
  • Experience with automation testing and documentation using tools such as Karate, Postman, Cucumber, Playwright, Selenium, Jenkins, and GitHub Actions
  • Experience building automated CI/CD pipelines with quality gates, test automation, and automated approvals
  • Working knowledge of public cloud and related technologies including AWS, GCP, and Kubernetes
  • Experience leveraging and building agent skills and prompt engineering
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Employment eligibility to work in the United States is required; American Express will not pursue visa sponsorship for these positions

Compensation and Benefits

  • Salary range: USD 103,750 - 174,750 per year
