Sr. Software Engineer

The Sr. Software Engineer role at Yoh, A Day & Zimmermann Company is based onsite in Wichita, Kansas, and focuses on designing embedded software and hardware systems for avionics and power electronics in aerospace. The position supports the development of safe, reliable, and innovative aerospace products across general, commercial, and defense markets.

Responsibilities

• Design embedded software and hardware systems powering advanced aircraft instruments, navigation tools, and energy management products.
• Contribute to the creation of safe, reliable, and innovative aerospace products used globally across general, commercial, and defense sectors.
• Lead forward-looking projects and push the boundaries of aerospace technology.

Requirements

• Bachelor of Science in computer engineering or a related field.
• Minimum of 10 years of professional experience designing embedded software.
• Proficiency in C programming and familiarity with target hardware, lab equipment, and debugging tools.
• Strong attention to detail, organizational skills, and a results-oriented mindset.
• Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office.

Nice to Have Skills

• Experience designing safety-critical software utilizing RTCA DO-178C, DO-254, or similar standards.
• Experience with C# for PC application software.
• Programming skills in VHDL.
• Knowledge of Design for Manufacture (DFM) and Design for Test (DFT).
• Experience designing or troubleshooting PCB hardware.

Preferred Education and Experience

• Bachelor’s degree in computer engineering or a related field.
• Over 10 years of embedded software design experience.

Other Requirements

• Ability to work with target hardware, including lab and test equipment.
• Hands-on experience with hardware prototyping, soldering, and testing.
• Capable of designing and executing test programs to ensure regulatory and performance compliance.
• Flexibility to work in both office and lab environments.

Compensation

Salary range: USD 120,000 - 140,000 per year. Estimated minimum rate: 120000. Estimated maximum rate: 140000.
