Job Description

At Agate Steel, the Steel Project Engineer plays a pivotal role in guiding steel fabrication projects from kickoff to close-out, coordinating document control, RFIs, schedules, and submittals while providing essential shop-floor support to boost fabrication efficiency. This onsite position in Scottsdale, AZ collaborates with clients and third-party contractors to align objectives and keep project timelines on track.

Responsibilities

  • Partner with project teams to develop strategic plans and budget estimates for materials, labor, time, and other resources across multiple simultaneous projects, identifying and addressing fabrication issues as they arise.
  • Support and contribute to the review of structural drawings and designs.
  • Maintain and organize logs for RFIs, drawings, submittals, contact lists, and related documentation.
  • Evaluate vendor qualifications, capabilities, and resource availability.
  • Coordinate detailing, fabrication, and erection schedules to meet dates and client expectations.
  • Contribute to cost reviews and provide technical support to align project costs with original estimates.
  • Analyze equipment, systems, and processes to identify modifications that improve efficiency, quality, and cost effectiveness in fabrication and erection.
  • Aid in preparing periodic progress and cost reports for leadership.
  • Maintain a working knowledge of applicable codes and guidelines to clearly communicate steel construction details to clients.
  • Demonstrate familiarity with and ongoing learning of software systems such as Tekla EPM, Trimble Connect, ViewPoint Team, BlueBeam, Microsoft Project, and related tools.

Requirements

  • Strong verbal and written communication abilities.
  • Solid budgeting and cost-control capabilities.
  • Outstanding organizational and time-management skills with meticulous attention to detail to meet deadlines.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Proven supervisory and leadership capabilities.
  • Comprehensive understanding of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T).
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office 365.
  • Familiarity with Trimble solutions.
  • Basic knowledge of AISC and AWS guidelines.
  • Bachelor’s degree in a related engineering discipline and at least 1 year of experience.

Wage Range

$60K - $90K DOE

Physical Requirements

  • Prolonged periods seated at a desk and working on a computer
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds occasionally
  • Ability to traverse yard and construction sites
