Job Description

Position onsite in West Roxbury, MA, with a salary range of USD 65,000 - 110,000 per year.

Responsibilities

  • Assist the Lead Architect with design development and the production of permit and construction drawing sets within a 3D BIM workflow (Revit or equivalent).
  • Create 3D structural plans and models covering foundations, framing, steel, engineered lumber, and floor truss systems, ensuring full coordination with the architectural model.
  • Support MEP planning for residential projects, including mechanical, electrical, and plumbing layouts, heat pump HVAC, ERV/ventilation, lighting controls, low-voltage/AV, and generator integration.
  • Assist with permitting by preparing and assembling permit submissions, zoning analyses, and supporting documentation for building departments, special permits, and ZBA filings; monitor applications through approval.
  • Conduct regular site visits to measure existing conditions, verify as-builts, document progress, aid in RFI responses, and coordinate with project managers and carpenters.
  • Design to Massachusetts energy codes, including stretch codes and opt-in all-electric pathways.
  • Collaborate daily with estimating, client relations, project management, and procurement to keep designs priced, coordinated, and buildable.
  • Support clients through selections and design development in partnership with the client relations team.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Architecture, Civil/Structural Engineering, or a related field.
  • Minimum 2 years of residential design or engineering experience; experience with high-end residential projects and construction documentation is a plus.
  • Proficiency in producing 3D structural plans and models, with Revit strongly preferred; knowledge of Tekla, RISA, or similar tools is a plus.
  • Ability to develop MEP layouts for residential projects is a plus.
  • Familiarity with Massachusetts building and energy codes; Newton-area zoning and permitting experience is a plus.
  • Willingness to perform fieldwork with reliable transportation and regular site visits.
  • Strong design sensibility across traditional and contemporary styles.
  • Rendering and client presentation skills using Enscape, Lumion, Twinmotion, or similar are a plus.
  • PE license is a plus; licensed candidates will be prioritized; support for licensure (PE or AXP) if pursuing it.
  • Strong communication skills to collaborate with architects, estimators, PMs, and field crews.

The Role

We are hiring a Structural Engineer / Architectural Designer to work directly under our Lead Architect, supporting the design, engineering, and documentation of luxury custom homes and major renovations from schematic design through construction. This is a hands-on production and support role in a true design-build environment, with drawings produced by our own crews and regular field work.
