Job Description

Lead the design and delivery of distributed control systems for lumber drying operations, from concept and quoting through installation coordination and ongoing troubleshooting.

Responsibilities

  • Design control systems using current automation technologies including PLCs, PACs, and industrial control networks over Ethernet networks
  • Design motor control panels featuring arrays of VFDs to drive multi-fan air movement systems
  • Design heat and humidity control systems, including steam control where applicable (steam control valves feeding steam to air heat exchanging coils)
  • Quote control system design, build, and implementation scope
  • Coordinate control system installations within larger mechanical project timelines, interfacing with internal tradesmen/technicians and external contractors
  • Provide customer support and troubleshooting for both in-house control systems and vendor control systems
  • Recommend and implement upgrades to existing customer control systems
  • Interface with control system component suppliers to support timely fabrication delivery
  • Deliver onsite and remote support for panel builders and control system installers as required

Requirements

  • BS in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or Computer Engineering, or AS with applicable equivalent work experience
  • 5+ years of industrial controls and system integration experience with a strong focus on software design and programming
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks with excellent attention to detail; willingness and ability to learn new technologies quickly
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Working knowledge of PLCs/PACs; Codesys-based hardware preferred
  • Proficiency with Ladder Logic and a structured text programming language
  • Knowledge of industrial control networking including Ethernet, Modbus TCP, Modbus RTU, and Eaton Smartware (plus)
  • Understanding of Ethernet technologies including addressing schemes, routing, wireless, and remote access
  • Understanding of analog control circuits including 4-20 mA and RTDs
  • Understanding of analog and process control methods including limit control, PI, and PID
  • Proficiency using control loop diagnostic equipment
  • Experience with web technologies including browsers, HTML, XML, and cloud-based technology and security
  • Understanding of plant floor data acquisition and storage methodologies; OPC UA (plus)
  • Above average computer skills; Google products development and scripting experience (plus)
  • Understanding of 3-phase power, panel design, and load calculations
  • Ability to troubleshoot 3-phase motors and motor circuits
  • Ability to troubleshoot control valves and control loops including electrical and pneumatic systems
  • Proficiency managing and mentoring tradesmen and technicians

  • Schedule: 10 hour shift; overtime
  • Work location: On the road; onsite in McMinnville, TN
  • Travel willingness: 75% (preferred)
  • Education (additional): High school or equivalent (preferred)
