Job Description

The Architectural Engineer for Healthcare Modular Systems will lead the design and technical development of prefabricated healthcare environments at SteelCell of Northeast GA, LLC. This onsite role translates clinical, architectural, structural, and regulatory requirements into modular solutions that are safe, compliant, manufacturable, and repeatable.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead engineering and technical development for assigned healthcare modular projects.
  • Participate in design-assist meetings, constructability reviews, prototype evaluations, BIM coordination, and stakeholder reviews.
  • Incorporate healthcare requirements tied to clinical workflow, accessibility, patient and staff safety, infection prevention, cleanability, and maintenance access.
  • Create 3D models, production drawings, assemblies, and fabrication details using a CAD system.
  • Ensure modular designs comply with applicable building codes, FGI Guidelines, NFPA 99, NFPA 101, ADA Standards, state modular requirements, and project-specific criteria.
  • Partner with structural engineers on analysis, member sizing, connection design, and steel-framing coordination.
  • Review architectural, structural, MEP, medical-equipment, and technology documents to support compatibility with modular systems.
  • Coordinate modular interfaces, including headwalls, medical gases, equipment supports, plumbing, electrical systems, technology, and field connections.
  • Apply design-for-manufacturing principles to improve quality, repeatability, cost, assembly, and installation efficiency.
  • Prepare and review drawings, calculations, specifications, bills of materials, technical submittals, and engineering record documentation.
  • Apply sustainable design principles and support LEED documentation related to materials, indoor environmental quality, waste reduction, and embodied carbon.
  • Provide technical support throughout the full project lifecycle.
  • Identify opportunities for product standardization and development of new healthcare modular solutions.
  • Perform all work in accordance with company safety policies and regulatory requirements.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Architectural, Civil, Structural, Mechanical, or a related engineering discipline.
  • 8+ years of progressive engineering, product-development, or construction experience.
  • Proficiency with Autodesk Inventor.
  • Ability to interpret architectural, structural, and MEP construction documents.
  • Working knowledge of structural design, steel fabrication, building codes, accessibility requirements, and construction-document practices.

Preferred Background

  • Experience in healthcare design, construction, prefabrication, or modular manufacturing.
  • Experience with inpatient rooms, emergency departments, operating rooms, behavioral-health environments, ambulatory facilities, bathroom pods, or headwall systems.
  • Familiarity with FGI Guidelines, NFPA 99, NFPA 101, ADA Standards, infection-prevention requirements, and healthcare accreditation expectations.
  • Experience with Revit, Navisworks, BIM coordination, or clash detection.

Certifications and Licenses (Recommended)

  • Engineer in Training certification desired.
  • LEED Experience + Construction preferred.
  • Certified Healthcare Constructor, Certified Healthcare Facility Manager, WELL AP, or EDAC certification considered beneficial.
  • Valid driver’s license and satisfactory driving record required for applicable project-related travel.

Compensation

Salary: USD 105,000 - 150,000 per yearly
