Job Description

The Avionics Systems Engineer, Level II, provides systems engineering support for the C-130/L-100 Avionics Upgrade program. This onsite role is based in Costa Mesa, California, with potential collaboration at facilities in California and Georgia.

Responsibilities

  • Review and decompose requirements for hardware and software teams.
  • Develop engineering plans and package materials, perform trade studies, and assess configurations; review work products for correctness and alignment with design concepts, requirements, and user standards, while tracking progress against schedules.
  • Coordinate with the Project or Program Manager to ensure problem resolution and user satisfaction; make recommendations for major systems installations when needed.
  • Prepare milestone status reports and deliver presentations on the system concept to colleagues, subordinates, and end user representatives.
  • Coordinate requirements with program management and decompose and flow down requirements to the team.
  • Schedule and track system development and test activities.
  • Oversee the coordination, management, and integration of all systems engineering activities; interface with all program functions and teams.
  • Access program data, attend reviews, and assess progress.
  • Define, develop, and manage the AMP architecture for hardware and software development, including Crew Station and Cockpit definitions, top level avionics hardware/software architecture, environmental, lighting, electrical, RF interoperability, electrical load, mass properties, system latency, digital bus loading, throughput, power margins, and navigation accuracy.
  • Identify, derive, allocate, and manage all program requirements; develop and generate verification and integration test plans for system integration and system-level testing.
  • Develop and manage the Cross Reference Verification Matrix (CRVM) and Interface Control Document (ICD).
  • Design, develop, build, integrate, test, and deliver the System Integration Lab (SIL) and Simulation Nodes used for OFP software development, CSCI qualification, and systems integration.
  • Support other program teams by providing required requirements and verification documentation to support Production Operations, Training and Logistics, and Flight Test.
  • Design, develop, test, and field new or modified training courseware; plan and develop training materials and conduct aircrew and maintenance training.
  • Participate in activities related to Configuration and Change Management.
  • Extended hours and weekend work may be required to support critical project and mission milestones.

Requirements

  • B.S. degree in Engineering or a related course of study.
  • Five (5) years of direct experience in avionics modification or a similar activity.
  • Develop and integrate concepts involving requirements, design, prototyping, production, testing, and logistics support across all phases of the weapon system life cycle, including trade-offs of performance, life-cycle cost, risk, productivity, supportability, testability, and other engineering requirements.
  • Review requirements and translate them into technical specifications for equipment, software, facilities, data, and personnel.
  • Provide technical direction and guidance to lower-level technical personnel as necessary.
  • Research, design, development, production, testing, and performance of theoretical studies; analyze system design and recommend improvements to enhance performance.
  • Minimum of two (2) years supervising system design, integration, and/or analytical projects.
  • Provide highly technical expertise and guidance in solving complex engineering problems.
  • Perform hardware and software analysis, evaluations, development, integration/implementation, and testing across all phases.
  • Develop standards and guidelines for tasks being performed.
  • Develop system specifications and system interface specifications.
  • Interface with Government personnel.
