Design Release Engineer (Wire Harness)

Job Description

Overview

Three Wire Harness Design Release Engineer (DRE) positions are available, with two focused on high voltage and one on low voltage.

Responsibilities

  • Design under and/or upper body wiring harnesses in alignment with program targets for cost, weight, quality, performance, and timing.
  • Ensure adherence to Robustness Engineering Disciplines such as quality history, P-Diagram, FMEA, and related practices to meet requirements and specifications.
  • Apply Six Sigma and 8D methodologies to problem solving and process improvement.
  • Lead Technical Design Reviews (TDRs) to validate design approaches and decisions.
  • Release components in FEDEBOM and WERS across the product life cycle and support the Change Control Meeting.
  • Audit and update the BOM with correct part levels and usage for prototypes and maintain it after Job 1.
  • Identify required validation, durability, and functional tests per requirements and specifications (DVP / FEDE DVP dashboard).
  • Resolve issues during the Digital and Build Phases of Product Development.
  • Analyze and break down the Program Direction Letter and Trim Spiders to account for EDS.
  • Generate proposals to minimize giveaway costs and reduce total part count.
  • Create design optimization proposals using benchmarking data.
  • Develop and maintain build level complexity charts.
  • Perform Harness Complexity Analysis and engineering cost estimates.
  • Define and verify engineering prototypes requirements at the part level.
  • Assist with parts implementation and sign-off in manufacturing and assembly plants, supporting quality issue resolution across milestones.
  • Support prototype and production build events for forward model programs.
  • Participate in quality and manufacturing quality forums as required.
  • Comply with GPDS deliverables applicable to EDS for each milestone.
  • Submit invention disclosures, process improvements, and best practices.
  • Complete training as outlined in the calendar year objectives.
  • Willingness to travel out of state and to Mexico/Central America.

Experience and Qualifications

Experience Required

  • Five to ten years of wiring harness design and involvement in vehicle launches.
  • Basic 3D CAD knowledge, with 3DX preferred; TeamCenter or other CAD experience is considered.
  • Knowledge and understanding of GPDS.
  • Understanding of feature partitioning.
  • Understanding of automotive systems.

Experience Preferred

  • Engineering degree in Mechanical, Electrical, or Mechatronics is desirable.
  • Microsoft Office proficiency (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Visio).
  • Time and project management capabilities.
  • Experience in wiring harness manufacturing.

Bachelor's Degree

Skills

  • Strong English proficiency (written, reading, and spoken).
  • CAD Design – 3DX experience is a plus; CATIA/TeamCenter or other CAD experience is acceptable.

Location and Work Arrangement

Location: Dearborn, MI 48126

Hybrid work arrangement – in the office four days per week with one remote day.

Compensation and Benefits

Pay: Up to $47.00 per hour

Expected hours: 40 per week
