Job Description

Bureau Veritas Building Assessments & Project Management is seeking an Energy Engineer to support facility condition and energy-focused evaluations for a range of property types across Phoenix, AZ. In this onsite role, you will help clients make informed decisions through on-site assessments, energy audits, benchmarking, and building performance reporting, including work that feeds capital planning and Net Zero initiatives.

From documenting building deficiencies to quantifying energy and water savings, this position blends field investigation with technical analysis and modeling. You will contribute to multidisciplinary projects and produce clear written deliverables that reflect assessment findings for commercial, institutional, municipal, and multifamily facilities.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform client-facing on-site assessments and prepare written reports documenting findings accurately.
  • Conduct Facility Condition Assessments (FCA) and related building performance services based on client scopes of work.
  • Complete ASHRAE Level I, Level II, and Level III Energy Audits.
  • Evaluate mechanical equipment, Building Energy Management System (BEMS/BAS) performance, and building systems through visual observations, interviews, utility analysis, and field investigation.
  • Carry out accessibility assessments and space utilization planning and analysis.
  • Perform utility benchmarking and energy performance evaluations, including analysis of historical utility consumption data.
  • Identify energy and water conservation opportunities and develop calculations quantifying projected savings, return on investment, and related value.
  • Support utility allowance studies, Statements of Energy Performance (SEP), ENERGY STAR benchmarking, carbon benchmarking, and other building performance analyses.
  • Develop recommendations to support sustainability efforts, ESG reporting, decarbonization, and Net Zero initiatives.
  • Perform building energy modeling using tools such as TREAT, eQUEST, DesignBuilder, Wrightsoft, RemRate, Trane TRACE, or comparable platforms.
  • Analyze prior building condition surveys, appraisals, energy studies, benchmarking reports, and accessibility surveys using specialized technical knowledge.
  • Complete equipment and component inventories, documenting systems, operating conditions, and deficiencies.
  • Provide planning-level repair, replacement, and energy improvement recommendations with cost estimates for capital improvement plans.
  • Review building documentation such as construction drawings, maintenance records, utility data, repair histories, warranties, and capital improvement records.
  • Collect field data needed for lifecycle cost analysis, capital planning, and energy conservation recommendations.
  • Prepare comprehensive technical reports summarizing assessment findings, deficiencies, benchmarking results, and supporting documentation.
  • Collaborate with internal technical teams supporting multidisciplinary assessment projects.
  • Meet expectations for productivity, report quality, and client service; maintain confidentiality and follow company policies, quality standards, SOPs, and safety requirements.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Architecture, Building Science, Construction Management, Energy Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Environmental Science, or a related technical field.
  • Minimum of 3 years of related experience.
  • OR 5 years of progressively responsible experience performing facility assessments, energy audits, commissioning, building performance evaluations, or related technical consulting services in lieu of a degree.
  • Residential experience only will not satisfy the experience requirement.

  • Certified Energy Manager (CEM)

  • Existing Building Commissioning Professional (EBCP)
  • Building Commissioning Professional (BCxP)
  • BPI Multifamily Building Analyst
  • LEED Green Associate or LEED AP
  • WELL AP or other sustainability credential

Skills and Knowledge

  • Knowledge of Facility Condition Assessments, capital planning, reserve studies, and Asset Management services.
  • Understanding of commercial building systems including HVAC, electrical, plumbing, building envelope, lighting, and controls.
  • Knowledge of ASHRAE energy auditing methodologies and building performance principles.
  • Familiarity with Building Automation Systems (BAS/BEMS) and building controls.
  • Experience with utility benchmarking, ENERGY STAR Portfolio Manager, utility allowance studies, carbon benchmarking, and sustainability reporting.
  • Experience using energy modeling software such as eQUEST, DesignBuilder, TREAT, Trane TRACE, Wrightsoft, RemRate, or comparable platforms.
  • Strong analytical, technical writing, problem-solving, and communication skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, AssetCalc, Quire, and other business-specific software.
  • Ability to operate an electronic tablet for field data collection.

Compensation and Location

  • Location: Phoenix, AZ (onsite)
  • Salary range: USD 80,000 - 110,000 per year
