Job Description

Western Environmental, a division of Controlled Environment Systems, seeks an HVACR Project Engineer to design heating, ventilation, air conditioning and refrigeration systems for critical environments while guiding projects from design through procurement. This onsite, full-time role is based in Springboro, Ohio, and requires a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or a related technical field along with a minimum of three years of relevant experience.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee the conceptual and detailed design and analysis of complex HVAC and refrigeration systems for spaces such as ISO-rated cleanrooms, metrology laboratories, cold rooms, and freezer environments.
  • Coordinate complete project lifecycles with emphasis on budgeting and procurement, monitor expenditures, manage equipment and materials sourcing, and drive projects to profitability and on-schedule delivery.
  • Act as the primary client liaison, participating in project meetings to clarify scope, provide expert recommendations, and present cost- and energy-efficient solutions aligned with client goals.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate engineered system designs into broader project efforts, and review models, drawings, and submittals (airflow diagrams, sequences of operations, calculations) to ensure accuracy.
  • Support leadership on strategic initiatives, contribute to engineering SOP development, and stay informed on industry trends and emerging technologies.

Requirements

  • Education: Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering or a related technical field.
  • Experience: Minimum of three years designing, analyzing, and implementing industrial HVAC and refrigeration systems.
  • Controlled Environments: Hands-on experience designing for specialized settings such as cleanrooms, industrial laboratories, metrology laboratories, or cold storage facilities.
  • Refrigeration Capability: Strong understanding of refrigeration design principles with practical experience applying them to cold rooms and freezer systems.
  • Project Leadership: Practical familiarity with project management, including budget oversight, financial tracking, and procurement handling.
  • Technical Proficiency: Proficient with AutoCAD, REVIT, and the Microsoft Office suite, including MS Project.
  • Communication: Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, comfortable presenting to and collaborating with clients.
