Job Description

Base-2 Solutions is seeking a Junior Software Engineer to help develop, maintain, and enhance complex software systems that support national defense decision-making. This onsite role in Hanover, MD involves building and improving software components, validating functionality through testing, and contributing to system design trade-offs within a highly regulated environment.

Role Summary

The position focuses on software development, testing, problem resolution, and support for system design decisions. Work will be performed under an Active Top Secret/SCI with Full Scope Polygraph requirement.

Responsibilities

  • Develop, maintain, and enhance complex and diverse software systems based on documented requirements, including processing-intensive analytics, novel algorithm development, manipulation of extremely large data sets, real-time systems, and business management information systems.
  • Contribute individually or as part of a team.
  • Review and test software components to confirm adherence to design requirements and document test results.
  • Resolve software problem reports.
  • Apply software development and software design methodologies appropriate to the development environment.
  • Provide input to software components of system design, including hardware/software trade-offs, software reuse, and guidance on using Commercial Off-the-shelf (COTS) and Government Off-the-shelf (GOTS) solutions instead of new development, as well as requirements analysis and synthesis from system level to individual software components.

Requirements

  • No demonstrated experience is required.
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related discipline from an accredited college or university is required.
  • Four (4) years of software engineering experience may be substituted for a bachelor's degree.

Technologies

Work may involve Java, C#, C++, JavaScript, Python, Scala, Ruby, Go and development environments such as Eclipse, NetBeans, IntelliJ IDEA, PyCharm, Visual Studio, and VS Code, across Windows, Unix, Linux, and macOS. Collaboration and tracking may include Atlassian Suite (JIRA, Confluence), GitHub, and ServiceNow, along with frameworks and tools such as Spring, Angular, Bootstrap, Oracle, MySQL, MongoDB, Maven, Jenkins, Docker, and Kubernetes. Version control and cloud platforms may include Git, SVN, CVS, AWS, Azure, and Google Cloud.
