Job Description

Lead Electrical Engineer 2 will provide technical leadership for electrical design and analysis supporting next-generation nuclear science and research through Sargent & Lundy’s Government Services division.

Responsibilities

  • Lead development of electrical engineering deliverables, including drawings, calculations, and specifications, while guiding engineers and designers preparing engineering documents
  • Serve as Electrical discipline lead to coordinate design phases across all site and facility electrical engineering work
  • Drive project execution to completion, with focus on schedule and budget expectations
  • Coordinate design activities with other electrical engineers to support installation and operations compliance with specifications, codes, and client requirements
  • Act as electrical discipline interface to clients, including status updates, RFI preparation, and scope clarification
  • Prepare and review detailed electrical calculations, including arc flash, voltage drop, fault current, and lighting analysis
  • Prepare design input documentation to support drawing production
  • Interface with vendors to develop materials and equipment purchase specifications for client recommendations
  • Produce reports and studies that clearly communicate technical information in client-required formats and S&L formats
  • Perform independent reviews of others’ work, including calculations and drawing preparation
  • Advance your career through peer learning by sharing knowledge via S&L systems of process and Communities of Practice
  • Provide mentorship to less experienced engineers
  • Lead others in moving engineering issues from identification to solution by setting expectations for using data and modern tools such as automation and AI to improve workflows, reduce rework, and deliver cost-effective designs
  • Direct or support automation and process improvement efforts, such as automating calculations, summarizing technical documents, and generating design documentation, while ensuring outputs are checked
  • Oversee engineers who program or script (e.g., Python, MATLAB, advanced Excel) to automate engineering tasks, with review of automated outputs; this is valued but not required

Requirements

  • Must be a U.S. Citizen; dual citizenship with a country other than the U.S. does not qualify
  • Must be able to obtain US Government security clearance
  • Required: BSEE from an ABET-accredited program; MSEE preferred
  • Must be currently licensed as a Professional Engineer (PE) in the US and able to obtain NM PE licensure
  • Must have or be able to obtain a DOE “Q” level clearance
  • 12+ years of experience (ideally in DOE, nuclear Navy, or NNSA) designing electrical engineering systems in a project team environment, focused on integrated, detailed system design for new plants or modifications/replacements for existing plants
  • Experience must include equipment selection, layouts, materials, and preparation of calculations and specifications
  • Experience creating electrical system drawings and designs, including low voltage distribution systems (switchgear, transformers, generators, motors, UPS) and communication systems
  • 3+ years leading an engineering design team through all phases of project design
  • Technically knowledgeable of available equipment and proven pre-engineered systems for systems design and integration
  • Experience serving as firm/client liaison in a lead engineering role
  • Experience reviewing design media produced by other engineers

Compensation

  • USD 134,546 - 205,557 per year
