Licensed Professional Engineer
Job Description
Admiral Heating and Ventilating is looking for a Licensed Professional Engineer to design and deliver mechanical HVAC systems for commercial and industrial projects in the Chicago area. This onsite role guides projects from concept through construction, ensuring code compliance while coordinating with multidisciplinary teams and mentoring junior staff.
Responsibilities
- Develop, review, and approve mechanical HVAC system designs.
- Prepare and certify engineering drawings, technical specifications, and calculations in line with applicable standards and regulations.
- Conduct system load analyses, equipment selections, and energy performance evaluations.
- Oversee the full project lifecycle from concept through construction completion.
- Coordinate with architectural, electrical, civil, and structural engineering professionals.
- Perform field inspections and provide technical support during construction and commissioning.
- Ensure designs comply with state and local building codes, ASHRAE, IMC, and NFPA standards.
- Provide technical guidance, mentorship, and quality assurance oversight for junior staff.
- Participate in project meetings, client presentations, and design reviews.
- Maintain current knowledge of emerging technologies, materials, and industry trends relevant to mechanical systems design.
Requirements
- Extensive knowledge of mechanical systems and the ability to design commercial HVAC, duct, and piping systems.
- Proficiency in HAP and E20 software.
- Strong AutoCAD skills with the ability to prepare and review detailed drawings.
- Experience in design-build delivery, construction administration, or BIM coordination.
- LEED accreditation or demonstrated experience with sustainable design practices.
- Excellent command of the English language, including grammar, spelling, and written composition.
- Exceptional organizational and time management abilities.
- Self-motivated with the ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities.
- Strong attention to detail and analytical problem solving skills.
- Effective interpersonal and communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Ability to collaborate with individuals at all levels of the organization, including executives.

Compensation and Benefits
Base salary range: $120,000 - $180,000 per year.

Education and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering MEP
- Active Professional Engineer license in the State of Illinois
- 7+ years of experience, 10+ preferred
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite
- Extensive knowledge of HVAC, ductwork, and piping
- Proficiency in HAP, E20, and AutoCAD suite software
